What is the best low net carb bread and/or bun?
Low net carb bread and/or bun
For me, it depends on use and convenience:
- Lettuce leaves and low carb tortillas work as wraps
- I use Ke-Dough for buns.
- Quick microwave bread works for burgers. In rectangular cookware, OK for hot dogs.
- Soy wrappers work for wraps and hot dogs, but also usable for burgers.
- Joseph’s Lavash Bread, cut into sandwich-size pieces. Work great as top and bottom for burgers, or wrap-around for hot dogs (no excess, like you would if using a low carb tortilla).
- Cheesebuns
- Fathead dough
- Diet Doctor Bread
- Headbanger’s Kitchen flatbread
For commercial low carb breads, I’ve used Thinslim and Great Low Carb Bread Company. Both were OK, but very expensive.
My go tos are these, I make both of them in muffin top pans, but the biscuit one works as a dropped biscuit or in a muffin tin. I can’t find a commercial keto bread I like so I make my own.
Almost forgot for more ideas dietdoctor.com is a great resource, many features are free but some do require a monthly fee. I think most of the recipes are free.

Andrea, have you gotten that bread to rise well and come out like a regular loaf of bread? My couple of attempts have not produced a nice loaf at all.
Just curious.
Yes I have. I put it in the oven (not on) and put a pot of boiling water in the bottom…also blast some warm air in from the hair drier (I live in Scotland and it’s always cool here!). Don’t usually let it rise for more than an hour. By that time it’s usually risen quite a lot. The boiling water and blast of hot air seems to really help as I usually have a rubbish time getting yeast stuff to rise. The first time I didn’t do this and it took like 3 hrs to rise, and even then it was not great.
I found subway-type rolls worked quite well.
And I sometimes use a banneton to let it rise and then turn it out onto a hot pan.
Can’t say I’ve completely mastered the rising/not collapsing thing just yet…but worst case it can always be used for toast!!
