Low carb MAHA org wants us to sign a petition (in the US)

(Bob M) #1

The MAHA (make America healthy again) movement apparently took everything about low carb, keto, insulin resistance, etc., out of their current proposals. See here:

I despise signing petitions, but I signed this. We have to have more advocacy for low carb/keto. If you’re the US, consider whether to sign this.

(Doug) #2

I signed it too, Bob. Good mention on your part.

(KM) #3

Done. I’d like to know what a “Whole Person” Health Initiative is, though. A holistic approach, or just someone who prioritizes whole grain cereal and graham crackers? :imp: I guess we can only hope.

Me three. I got this from Nina Teicholz because I subscribe to her Substack. I’ve been following Nina long enough to trust her.

(Bob M) #5

Corrected the title.

Thanks, all. I also got this from multiple locations, Nina’s email and Keto Mojo (oddly) too.

I pretty much never sign anything like this, but I’m getting sick of low carb/keto NEVER being considered.

There was a post somewhere (Bluesky?) about how science is hard, and basically people doing science on their own are wrong. I asked them if they could cite to the RCTs that show that the benefits to the food pyramid/food plate/whatever it is now. The largest RCT ever done in this area was an incredibly expensive failure. The food plate/food pyramid is wrong for many.

And how do I know it’s wrong? Because I’ve been eating something that goes against it for the last 11+ years and feel great.

I am not a conspiracy theorist at all, but even I have to wonder if the government is so wrong about eating, what else is it wrong about? And I fully admit that there are people who can eat a high(er) carb diet and be totally fine. I just don’t happen to be one of them. And my kids, who sadly seem to have inherited my genetics, also aren’t, but they are taught in school to eat high carb, and they are served meals that are high carb/low fat because of the guidance the government puts out. Consequently, they believe that’s the way they should eat. That should end.

I don’t blame them. Buzzwords lose credibility for what you’re trying to push. It’s well known RFK is about lower carb and better carbs when you eat them, very much fighting insulin resistance and people becoming diabetic, and obese and as a whole is in line with what all of us preach.

If you say “Carnivore” 9/10 people are going to immediately have an image of Liver King, Saladino, or Possibly Jordan Peterson which many disagree with mostly for politics, not dietary stuff, but that’s enough.

If you say Keto, that brings up “those crazy people that won’t eat bread”

If you say Paleo, that’s those nutbags that ask the waiter if their plate has gluten in it.

Vegan? I don’t think I even need to go there.

If you say "should we keep dangerous criminals off the street and out of our country? Almost everybody will say absolutely! Unless you say you want to enforce border security, then the tears start. Like the old saying, it’s not what you say, it’s HOW you say it, and the words you chose are very important!

Anybody for trash out of the food supply should be signing this.

(Joey) #7

What?! Do you good people want to see yet more spikes in beef prices?! Think, my friends … THINK!

(KCKO, KCFO 🥥) #8

Already signed it. Not hoping for much but it never hurts to stand up for what is right.

(BuckRimfire) #9

Ugh, I hate to do anything that could be considered support for that Fing Kennedy, but at least on this one issue he might be useful. Signed.

(Ethan) #10

If you’re against Kennedy, who are you for? Fauci?

(BuckRimfire) #11

Yeah.

An actual medical scientist vs an anti-vax wacko lawyer with a hole in his brain? This is not even a serious question.

(Ethan) #12

RFK Jr is driving out the vaxxers at the CDC. That’s for sure.

Anything involving corporate influence. I don’t believe that’s a political statement any longer, alas, but merely a statement of fact.

In fact, it appears that the U.S. is in the end stage of a long play begun well over fifty years ago.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #14

Phinney, Volek, D’Agostino, Bernstein, Kendrick, Feinman, Ravnskov, de Lorgeril, Diamond, Unwin, Malhotra, Noakes, . . . .

(KM) #15

Or maybe 250. :rage:

#16

He’s not anti-vax, and that’s been addressed ad-nauseum, he’s against unnecessary, and over-vaxination. Big difference. But you’re ok with Fauci who was literally recorded being honest about lying to people and intentionally wrecking their lives to put them into a position to just fall in line… and make people money who he literally had stock in. Really?

That’s way beyond politics, that’s just a scumbag. Even Fauci didn’t believe what he said, as evidenced when he was recommending useless masks for everybody while 2 days later at a Nationals game without one. It wasn’t until his family was threatened that all of a sudden it was HIM that fell in line.

#17

Nobody that’s for health is against Kennedy for any real reason, they’re against him because he swapped the D after his name with an I, then took a position under Trump. It’s just more cancel culture.

Same people were all about him when he was suing Monsanto though…

Shouldn’t matter what letter comes after the name, people who can think for themselves (ya, that’s rare these days) vote based on issues, not biased stupidity.

(Ethan) #18

The thing about Covid vaccine and RFK discussions that’s so fun is you just start the thread…then the fools come out of the woodwork and do all the heavy lifting

(Mark Rhodes) #19

I appreciate Nina doing her utmost to get the low carb issue on the table. IN Vegas at COSCI, I expressed my dismay that her joing with people who disdain science will utlimately back fire. At some point I beleive this current administration will burn up and everything it touched will be seen as carack pot material. The BABY will get thrown out with the bathwater. Most times political bedfellows are fine. In this case the pendulum swing will be too severe. Again my opinion and I would love to be wrong in this.

Enough politics folks. I appreciate you’ve been civil, and my thanks. But the risk of serious contention is just too great. I’ve learned the hard way that it’s better to stop before things get too heated.
