Low Carb / Keto going more mainstream?

I was in a Meijer’s store today (Big grocer / superstore in Michigan). Looking down one aisle, I saw “low carb” on a sign. didn’t see any products specifically labeled low carb and one side of the row was all kinds of chips. A small section had some nuts and beef jerky. I checked on bag of jerky and it was Teriyaki flavored with a fair bit of carbs.

Speaking of Michigan, I’d love to hear from other people in the "mitten’ state. (If you don’t know what a “mitten” is, look at a map of the state). Might be nice to have a small support group to meet sometime. Oh, I’m on the west coast of MI, close to the big lake in case you happen to be in my neighborhood.

I think 2017 is the year of keto. The new paleo, so to speak.

But, low carb is still foreign in many places. Where I live, “low carb” is largely interpreted to mean the 12-packs of Coke due to their placement on the shelf.

Don’t live there any more, but I spent much of my youth in Ypsilanti (between Detroit and Ann Arbor).

Vacationed a few times in the U.P., on the Lake Michigan side.

There is a few us around GR who get together. Whereabouts are you?

I hope so!!! I grew up in central Indiana and vacationed all the time in the UP, stopping to canoe in the central part of the state. Good times. Mackinaw Island, petosky stones, blueberries, fishing yep!

Anyhoo, I hope that the tide is turning. My Indiana peeps could use a LCHF culture. Hoping for the best. I’m known for hauling a huge bag of avocados back for HS reunions and passing them out for thank you’s to the places I stay… LOL. (now in So. Cal).

I was just thinking this to myself today. I live in central Indiana. Shopping at Aldi. Candy is on sale. 86% chocolate is always gone. I have also noticed heavy cream disappearing faster than last year as well. But we had a major grocery store chain file for bankruptcy. You may be onto something???

Holland, Michigan here. About 3/4 mile from lake MI on the north side of Holland. FB friend me and maybe we can hook up sometime.

Born in Grand Rapids, grew up outside of Flint, spent my summers on Crystal Lake. Left in 1982, and in Arizona, all I shovel is sunshine. :sunglasses:
