Is low carb great a no no for keto? I just recently ordered some bread online made with wheat protein isolates that is only 1 carb for slice. My question is… has anyone had any problems with low carb breads and will it hinder my journey?
Low carb bread
Everyone is different so no way to tell except experiment on yourself. Can you post a picture of the label?
The only low carb bread substitute I ate early on were the pancakes made from CarbQuick (low carb Bisquick mix). We never eat them anymore.
Occasionally we’ll have the low carb wraps (5 net carbs) but not on a regular basis. Still processed food, which we try to minimize.
Why does low carb bread need to made with anything even wheat related ???
My GF has been making all kinds (well like 3 different kinds so far) that use NO wheat products at all.
One recipe substitutes flour with almond meal… Another uses like eggs and cheese !? I know right ? How does that make anything close to bread ?! But it does, and IMPO it tastes even better than bread.
We used it with tuna melts, hamburgers (again just a few hours ago) and fixing to use it for pizza crust !
And I’ll tell you what, forget buying it, as I’ve yet to see a good deal on any great tasting Keto bread. Their are Keto bread recipes all over the place. Pick one and try it.
The more real your food, the better off you are. Faux bread may help you transition from being a carb burner to being a fat burner but it won’t be your greatest ally. The bottom line is to keep your carbs low (under 20 per day for best results). If you want to spend your carbs on keto bread or vegetables is up to you.
I used to make keto mug buns several times per month because I didn’t want to give up the burger experience but I found that if I just sub out the fake bun for an extra patty, the end result is the same as far as my hunger goes and my carb count stays much lower. Also, not buying almond flour means I have more money for ribeyes.
As with anything purchased pre processed we need to be suspect into what is actually in it… reading labels that are not telling the whole story or truth is real. Wether it’s a typo or loophole… chit happens. I did purchase some Zero carb bread and being a Type II Diabetic it’s very important to see how I responded and tested it fairly for myself. Honestly the only breads I eat now are low carb tortillas and some cracker I have put almond butter on… I am in a stricter mode now so…nuttin. But I gave a review on this link and was impressed with quality and my minimal response…even way over eating it. Link
My easiest sandwich is simply a cheesewich – meat between two slices of cheese. My go-to is two slices of Canadian Bacon on a slice of pepper jack cheese. Just fold over and eat.
Otherwise, what I use for bread depends on use and convenience:
- Joseph’s Lavash Bread
- Lettuce leaves and low carb tortillas work as wraps
- I use Ke-Dough for buns.
- Protein powder bread
- Quick microwave bread works for burgers. In rectangular cookware, OK for hot dogs.
- Cheesebuns
- Soy wrappers work well for hot dogs, but also usable for burgers.
- Headbanger’s Kitchen flatbread
I’ve tried both the ThinSlim and Great Low Carb Bread Company baked items. They’re OK, but expensive and filled with a lot of fiber. I always feel bloated and uncomfortable afterwards.
I’m glad you did a review with thin slim foods. I just ordered from Lowcarbfoods. I haven’t received my order yet, but was feeling guilty about it already like I’m cheating. Since, you had a half of loaf of bread in one day lol, I’m guessing a few slices per week won’t hurt. I just want to enjoy sandwiches with my kids here and there lol.
Thank you, I’ve tried a couple recipes for bread but they weren’t so tasty. I ordered from lowcarbfoods, haven’t received yet, but just wanted bread I could just open and eat
I really to need to eat more meat. I just eat chicken really and it’s not really filling
I am awaiting my ThinSlim bread today. I just received the bagels and will try those soon. My thought was to make bagel rounds (slice the bagel into little discs) and toast them so we could have vehicles (‘crackers”) for various cheeses or nut butters. This would offer not so much a dependency on “bagels” per se but a resourceful low carb sense of normalcy when socializing. Of course bagels cream cheese and smoked salmon with onion, capers, and tomato sounds pretty darned good too.
While you are awaiting that bread you might want to make some of this while you are waiting?

Low Carb 90 Second Microwave Bread
Recipe By :
Serving Size : 1 Preparation Time : 2:00 mins.
Categories : Low Carb
3 tbsp almond flour
or 1 1/3 tbsp coconut flour
1 tbsp oil (melted butter – melted coconut oil, avocado oil)
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 large egg
tiny pinch of salt
Add all ingredients to a 4x4 microwave safe bowl,* tap on the counter a few
times to remove air bubbles, and microwave for 90 seconds. You can also
bake in a oven safe container for 10 minutes at 375F For added texture,
slice in half and toast. You can also add garlic or other spices to this
before toasting for variety. Would be good for grilled cheese in a skillet
as well.

NOTES;
- I use a small rectangular bowl for hot dog buns, a round one for burgers.
Always warm eggs used in baking by sitting them in hot water for @1 min. It does make a difference, just do it.
If you slit this and toast it, it can replace cornbread on your plate. Almost any keto bun will improve with toasting, gives more bread like texture to the breads.
Thanks! I’ll make this anyway b/c it looks good and quick and a lot less expensive:grin:. The ThinSlim bread, to me, is kinda…meh…but hubs liked to be able to have a sandwich with everyone else on recent projects. The bagels that I sliced and toasted off for “dip & cheese carriers” were pretty good. I keep my “breads” in the freezer and pull out judiciously (they’re expensive dammit) so we(mostly hubs)don’t fall into the trap of thinking we can eat “like everyone else”.
We bake batches of keto biscuits & keto buns freeze them. We have to make a decision to use them. When I decide I “need” a bread, I go to the 90 sec. one. I now need to do grilled cheese sandwiches with it. I gave the recipe to someone who gave me a big hug when she saw me recently and said “I used that 90 sec. bread to make my first grilled cheese sandwich in 3 years, you have changed my life, thank you so much.” Even her husband thought they were great.
Keto bread is SO good, with SO many different meals… I was away from home for a day and a half.
Brought a huge tuna fish sandwich for my dinner, and another huge ham, eggs, cheese and mayo sandwich for breakfast. Granted, the breakfast sandwich was more than I could eat. Saved about a third of it for a snack at lunch, then never are another bit of anything, until my next breakfast, 20 hours later
I put the can there for reference. But I had to throw them on the scale too I almost never way anything, because I don’t usually care. I was just curious…
Tried the 90 sec. bread to make a grilled cheese sandwich. So good, will be adding some ham and mustard to the next round.
