Low Blood sugar Low Blood Keto

(Bea ) #1

My Blood sugar is around 5.2 (93.7) and my ketones 0.6 so it means I m not burning fat? why s this happening? I m constantly on IF and despite my low blood sugar there r no ketones :(( so stressed about this. Any ideas? Thank you so much.

There is nothing in your data to suggest you are not burning fat. Blood ketone readings are a measure of ketones you are not burning. Stop stressing over ketones and concentrate on your health.

Nutritional Ketosis begins at 0.5

Its possible too much fat or calories
I always thought I had to keep my fat and calories high but that’s not always true :astonished:

I wish you luck and much success in your journey to better health through IF/EF Keto WOE

:slightly_smiling_face:

I m fasting so there s no too much anything except water :{{

Maybe it just takes more time for some ppl I ll keep checking for few wks. thank u.

Are you fat adapted?

(Bea ) #7

Nope not yet :frowning: I m just trying to keep my blood sugar low first and I d like to see more ketones in it. Everybody says it s easy to get on ketosis but it s not. Other day I ate only a serve of sauteed liver and watched my sugar spiked from 5.4 to 7.8!! Just with plain liver! :;((

ketones in blood ? urine ?

0.6 is ketosis. Higher isn’t necessarily better

(Bea ) #9

blood. maybe. we ll see how it goes I might need more time to adjust.

What are your normal macros and how long IF/Keto eating window and no. of meals?

(Bea ) #11

i m on 20/4 1 meal and a little snack. I dont count macros. Only eat meat or vegetables sometimes both with fat.

high ketones do not indicate that you are burning body fat…which is what you want. You could up your ketones by

  1. drinking exogenous ketones
  2. drinking a ton of MCT oil

Both would increase blood ketones, but likely limit your body from burning stored fat. Also, your blood sugar is in the range of normal, there is no reason to worry about driving it to the lower end of normal. What is problematic is consistently elevated blood sugar all of the time (or delayed return to normal) due to insulin resistance.

both too high fat or protein can prevent fat burning :disappointed:

you didn’t say how long IF/Keto but it takes 6 to 8 weeks to fat adapt for most people .

also the best way to gauge fat loss/ fat burning is change in body composition, measuring your waist is best.
