Lost "Sweet tooth?

(jim Chiodo) #1

I’ve made a keto cheesecake several times. Made one yesterday and love it. When I was younger, i went to NYC often, (clients were lawfirms). They regularly had NY cheesecake and I loved it.

Since being on keto, I’ve lost 65 lbs, feeling good, looking good, etc (i’m biased). Anyhow, friends tell me my keto cheesecake is only so-so. I love it and think it tastes as good as those I had many years ago in NYC.

Is it true we loose our sweet tooth and treats with stevia tastes sweet and good to us on keto but not to non keto dieters?

For sure. A few months ago I was on a @carl’s keto chocolate mousse kick, and found as time went on I was cutting the amount of sweetener I used. After not making it for a while I made a batch a couple weeks ago. Since it had been a while, I couldn’t remember how much sweetener I had used so I followed the original recipe. It was WAY to sweet for me.

Now, for a treat, I’ll make whipped cream with HWC and… nothing else. Just plain whipped cream, and it tastes plenty sweet naturally.

Wow, I didn’t know this was a carnivore dish?:rofl:

“Mostly” carnivore :rofl::rofl:

I figure if I set myself up where “indulgences” are still keto, I’m in good shape. Although I had a salad the other night and all I could think was how I was so happy I don’t HAVE to eat rabbit food if I don’t want to.

How did that salad taste when it is such a rare thing? Curiosity?

Funny enough (so since it ties back to the thread topic), I was surprised how sweet the tomatoes and cucumbers tasted, but overall I realized I’m perfectly content with my meat, eggs, and dairy. I definitely don’t crave veggies, but I do crave a good ribeye.

I keep hearing how things taste sweeter but have not ventured to taste thing I haven’t eaten in a long time.
I do however have whipped cream on sugar free jello as a treat and it seems like it is getting sweeter every time I have it. Like it has sugar everywhere. Afraid to venture into the abyss. :open_mouth:

They are technically fruits after all! :yum:

And, yes, your taste buds change. I was low carb for a number of years before Keto and I can smell sugar in a dish from a mile away! No one can slip it past me anymore. Some lady took garlic pickles to a potluck (I thought, Great, I can have this!) but when I tried it, I detected sugar and I asked her if she used any. She was shocked that I could tell, and said she only used a tablespoon or two in the whole thing. I think you eventually become hyper-sensitive to it and that’s a good thing. And as a plus, the carb-burners won’t eat up your food!

I can leave my 100% chocolate right on the counter and no one goes near it :joy:

It’s funny how your tastes change. Before keto I thought a 60% dark chocolate is just about the nastiest thing in the world - bitter, astringent and disgusting. Now a piece of 85% chocolage is my favourite treat.

I absolutely couldn’t stand fat meat. Always extracted all fat from my meat with surgical precision. Now I gorge on pork belly without restraint.

Funny thing - whenever I have a cheat moment and eat a peach or a bit of ice cream it just doesn’t give me the pleasure it used to. It’s not WOW anymore, more like meh…It appears I did have lost my sweet tooth, or most of it. Except for some stevia in my coffee a few times a week I don’t crave sweets anymore.

I drive by many loaded Mango trees on the way to the office, my goal treat is to have one, I am sure i will be disappointed. Now coconut is plenty sweet

:slightly_smiling_face: Some of the darker chocolates have quite complex tastes, and are a joy to patiently discover. Less sweetness uncovers much of that, I think.

Changing tastes - the last time I had cake with regular sugary icing, it tasted similar to very strong artificial sweetener, like overly concentrated and alcoholic in nature. Made my teeth hurt and my mind cringe.
