Lost for first 6 days and then it stopped

Latest Update as on 2/21/2019: I started losing weight after a week of a halt in weight loss. I didn’t experience any keto flu, I got easily and comfortable adopted to keto I never imagined it’s that easy to fight my sugar addiction). I can feel my clothes are too loose. Feel great, sleeping like a baby I mean it. never slept like that in years, reduced mood swings, no sugar cravings, eating healthy, doing a 10-mile walk 4-5 days in a week, when I feel full doing intermittent fasting as i stop eating @4PM in the evening. Love keto for all the positive changes(weight loss is an added bonus).
Start weight: 85.4Kgs
Current Weight: 77.4Kgs

Keep going guys. Thanks to everyone for the encouraging and thoughtful words.

HI, I am new to keto. Started around Jan 28th, I lost 3 kgs in first 6 days and then it stalled. Am I doing anything wrong?

Macros: 70 fat: 25 protein: 5 carbs (81g fat: 65g Protein: 13 Net Carbs)
Female, 37
Height: 5.4
Start Weight: 85.4 Kg’s
Current Weight: 83.4 Kg’s (Whatever I lost in first 5/6 days and then no change)
Physical activity: In-home 5-10 miles walk

I am feeling full and full of energy. no issues except my weight is not dropping. sometimes I am even not even meeting enough calories to meet my macros. Drinking lots of water and from past two days started taking Psyllium Husk 2-3 fiber capsules.

Irrespective of scale results I feel like going on keto as feel great and keep my carb and sugar cravings at bay. But I still want to know what I am doing wrong or is it because I am not meeting my daily calory limit that’s causing to not lose weight.

FYI I am not intentionally restricting my food intake. I am feeling full for the whole day (9 Am and 1 PM) with two meals and next morning till 9 Am, I am not even feeling like taking food. hopefully, loss of appetite and weight-loss stall are not negative effects and will soon pass this stage.

Weight loss is not going to be linear, and it sounds like you’re off to a great start.
@juice might be on here soon to give you his great newbie tips

Full of energy and feeling great and keeping cravings at bay is AMAZING.

Re calories: there are different schools of thought on this, but I would say that if you’re purposely restricting food you could be slowing down your metabolism whereas if you’re using your hunger as a guide you’re probably doing just fine, and you might be tapping into your fat stores at a relatively early stage.

Take photos and measurements! Today, if you haven’t already. Really, it’s one of the most useful things you can do early on; they are a much better indication of fat loss (which the scale doesn’t measure).

Thanks Madeleine for the response. I am not restricting my food, it’s just I am not feeling hungry. Two meals make me too full for the whole day. In the morning till 9 Am I don’t even feel the hunger.

Welcome reshma,

You seem to be doing everything right. The initial weight loss includes water so it’ll be quick but then appear to go slower. You definitely need to hang in there for a few more weeks.

I was losing at the rate of about 1kg (2lbs) per week, I didn’t have all that much to lose, some heavier people loose at a faster pace … but we’re all different, as long as you keep under 20g carbs you’ll click the “burn-fat-for-fuel” switch.

Keto adaptation takes at least a 4 to 6 weeks (if not more).

If you weight yourself dont’ take every moment’s weight to mean much, you must considerate the average over a week or three.

Meantime get plenty of sodium. And of course water. A lot of people talk of “keto flu” but they lack sodium.

We all wish there was a go faster button … but can’t find one.

Meantime just hang in there.

In all likelihood, that means you’re using your own body fat to supplement what you’re eating (which means you’re not actually restricting!). It would be amazing if there were some way to see into our own metabolisms to know exactly what’s going on, but we can only use markers that vary enormously for different people (e.g. blood sugar, ketone readings), logic, and our own sensations and instincts.

But if you’re feeling good, you’re eating to satiety and your cravings are gone, you are probably on a great path. Keep us posted! (And please take measurements!)
I know that sometimes these are overused, but check this out:

Thanks for all the valuable info. You might be right i should stop looking at the scale morning and evening everyday. I am doing a 8-10 mile in home walk everyday

Alex is right. You are actually doing fine. Give things some time, and you are likely to be very pleased with the result. Typically, the fat just falls off men, but women’s hormonal situation makes things more complicated, as many of the women in this community can tell you. Here’s some virtual bacon to encourage you: :bacon::bacon::bacon:

Thanks for the encouragement. Stopped looking at weight and feeling better. I don’t have appetite at all. Can’t even meet my 1000 cal per day but all active, no issues, no cravings. Hopefully my weight loss stall and loss of appetite are not negative effects.

My sugar and carb cravings are gone. Constant hunger is gone. I am still happy with keto

I worry you are eating too little, especially protein. If you are not seeing any progress I would increase a bit and see it that helps.

Expecting to lose weight too much at a time and quickly is fairly unrealistic and i agree with you.

May be should have put it more clearly i think:
Weight stalled
NO hungur (I can hardly reach 1000cals - have to force myself to have a second meal)

As i am pretty new just wanted the assurance that i am not doing anything wrong to damage my metabolism by eating less calories (that’s why my weight-loss stalled question came from). Other than that My sugar and carb addiction and cravings are gone, energy, sleeping like a baby. can’t complain on anything else with keto.

I should have presented my worries in a much better way but again it’s never too late.

Thanks for all the encouraging words and time you guys spend for us.

I lost 4 lbs the first week and nothing since then. I am on week 5. I feel like I have lost an inch or so. I continue because my blood sugar had gone way down and I have even decreased my insulin. I’m not sure why I am not dropping weight but love my drop in blood sugar.

(reshma) #14

keep going, Sandy. losing inches is a very good sign. Earlier when I started to exercise, I lost inches after 5 weeks but no weight change till 2 months. Kept going and dropped weight much later. Losing inches says a lot than weight. weight keeps fluctuating day to day basis.

Keep going… Good luck

Losing inches means that you are losing fat. The term “weight” includes other things, such as bone, muscle, and internal organs. So I would urge everyone to think clearly: when you say you want to lose “weight,” just what is it you’re talking about? You don’t really want your muscles to shrink or your bones to get more brittle, surely? What would your choice be if I forced you to choose between losing “weight” and losing “fat”?
