Losing pounds not inches

Hi out there! I started the process of losing weight in July of 2018 at 192lbs. After falling off the wagon for a few months, I decided to try Keto to reduce acid reflux. Well holy cow, it totally worked and I don’t have acid reflux anymore.

Here is my question. I am at 172lbs - so I have dropped 20lbs. But my waist is still the same as it was last July at 192lbs. How is this possible? Where are the lbs coming from?

Hope someone can illuminate me here.

Fat comes down as a whole, this is why it’s more important to take measurements than it is to allow the scale to tell you when everything is working. Measure now so you’ll have a reference point for next time. Look at an old Pic of yourself, @20lbs down its probably pretty noticeable.

Thank you! I will dig out my old cell phone and look at myself.

While some shrink immediately at the waist, for others the midsection is often the last to go. Unfortunately, I’m on Team 2. Damnit.

When you gain weight you can’t tell your body where to put it. Same goes when you are losing it, your body takes it from wherever it wants. I think for most people the waist is the last to go

Ha!! Ok, I never thought about like this. I will keep at it. Thank you!

I wish I could tell my body where to put it! Thanks!

I have read that cortisol, the stress hormone, really adds the padding around the middle. I’m hoping more deliberate stress reduction will reduce my hiking pants sizes because these suddenly skinny knees are NOT helping the cause.

I can honestly say i was in the same boat. I started at 230 :disappointed_relieved: when i hit 200 i was like awesome, except i was still in the same clothes…i am now 187 and finally a smaller pant size. I think some of it may just be how we perceive ourself. And if nothing else im sure you can feel the difference! You are doing great, keep on smiling and keep on keto’ing!

Thank you so much for the encouragement! Congrats on your progress as well, that is a huge accomplishment!

This makes sense and I have read that too. I gained most of it when I took on a stressful new job that made my sleep schedule crazy and erratic. Reversing it is HARD!!!

Oy, yeah. Sleep deprivation sucks, especially the kind where you’re laying there and trying and the Zzzs still won’t come. The one thing that works for me is to play an ambient sound video of crickets on You Tube for 5 -15 minutes and lay on the floor with my eyes closed. My heart slows down right away. I use the same video every time so the sleep message becomes entrained. Nature has always been my medicine.

Ha, ha–this reminds me of my greatest challenge to date: Not trying so hard and taking score too soon. Screws me every time.
