First let me say my mind was sort of blown when I did my measurements for the first time. I let things get out of control. I figure I took the original measurements on January 5th.
Well for giggles I did it again today and it’s weird how I lost them.
Here’s January Measurements
49/42/54
Today they were Unexpected
44/40/47
That’s 5” off the bust
ONLY 2” off the belly
and 7 off the hips!!
First off it’s only been 5 weeks. Can this be true?
How? I’ve only lost 14.5 pounds and I can’t move much because I need my hip replaced.
Second…why So little off the belly?
I’m 58…? Looking for some older ladies to please inform.
I mean I’m not going to complain but honestly does this sound right?
Losing inches everywhere but my belly
My apologies if I’m not an older lady, but here are my thoughts.
First, THAT’S AWESOME!
I believe that, despite not moving as much, you’re probably counting calories. Most weight loss happens in the kitchen, not the gym. So it already seems like you’re burning more than you’re eating.
Second, you really can’t target where your body loses fat when you diet/exercise. For instance, doing a bunch squats doesn’t make your thighs shrink, and doing a bunch of crunches doesn’t melt your belly. Your body just takes fat wherever it finds it most convenient to move energy around.
But! Never fear! Belly fat (also called visceral fat) is known to be harder to lose, but not impossible. Personally, I think you’re doing wonderful - just keep on keeping on and it’ll melt away before you know it.
I can’t say much about the numbers but it’s pretty normal that we don’t lose fat and inches similarly from all places. Many people have a slim body with a somewhat fat belly when they have not much excess fat. It’s not uncommon.
Most of my parts have seemingly not much excess fat and my wrists always were very skinny and unusually tiny. My head totally transformed (it went through drastic changes in some point, pretty quickly), my arms and shoulders are fine (well, fat wise, they aren’t muscular enough)… My belly that was always my fattest part? It barely changed. Most of my excess fat is between my waist and knees… but my thighs got way slimmer. I never saw with my own eyes that my belly changed, only my pants showed that).
Keep at it and you will lose from everywhere you need to
Hi Christine,
I am a 63 yr old female. I started keto in march 2018. I have many medical problems but I knew that it would work with time. I have now lost 80 pounds! Yes, 80 pounds! With no exercise. I measured once a month and when I just now looked back:
Start 46/46/49 WT 228
in 1 month 44.5/44/47.5
You did better than me! You are doing great! Looking at all of the months my belly is the hardest to drop off. I am at 36 now. Our bodies all lose at different rates. Your clothes will start to get loose and sometimes you don’t lose weight but your body is shifting.
My weight is now 148.8. I can wear skinny jeans and medium tops. I am so happy and feel so much better. My goal is 135 and I am slowing getting there.
I hope this helps!
Kathy
I can relate to you Christine. I have lost 61 pounds and have been doing Keto for a year now, and my tummy is still way bigger then I want it to be. I want to lose off my tummy too. I was 293, I am now 232, and my goal is 130 so I have 102 pounds to go, and I am hoping that by the time I get to that point that my tummy will be a lot smaller then it is now.
As you can see from this recent update pic to show my 61 pounds lost, my legs are a lot slimmer, as are my hips, my butt is a lot flatter too, I have lost off of my face and arms, and yes, my tummy, but it is still much bigger then I want it to be =).
Thanks, Beccs. I put the pic to show Christine that I understand her post about losing the weight from everywhere but her tummy was all. I appreciate the frustration, but I feel that her and I both will eventually lose it from there too =).
58 year old female here. I didn’t take measurements when I started June 15 of 2019. However, I was in tight size 12 jeans and large tops…now I am in comfortable size 8’s and medium tops. The scale says I have lost 30 lbs.
As women, we are divinely designed for different stages of life. I believe some extra padding is good for protecting our bones in case we fall!! It sounds as though you are doing great! Keep going !!
Wow! I so can’t wait to get there! I’m enjoying the journey so far but getting started can be challenging. Keto is not cut and dry. You mentioned many medical problems… I also have hypothyroidism and my joints are really bad. So exercise isn’t really an option. I think I’d break. But congratulations to you. I hope to be there in due time myself. I’d be ecstatic to lose 10” in my gut. Thanks so much for the reply!
Omg! You look great! Thanks for the reply. I haven’t tried any clothes on. I wear the same thing every day… gray sweats with a sweat shirt. I’m going to hold off on that for another month or 2. It’s easy to do when you live in a northern Maine and work from home. What a change though! I’m happy for you and very hopeful for me!
Hahahaha Oh that’s a whole other topic huh…? How much our bodies change. I can’t even believe it sometimes. I swear it changed soooo dramatically since I hit 55!
That visceral fat… It came out of no where. (Not really… it came from too many pizzas that decided to land there instead. Thanks for the reply!
I wear gray sweats and a sweat shirt everyday. I am not going to try anything on for 2 more months. I work from home and can get away with going to the store dressed like this with a long coat on… lol.
I can’t wait for my own personal unveiling! Thanks for your reply!
Wow, big difference, Susan! You look great!
You are almost in the double digits!
I was just trying to show you that I have been losing everywhere but my tummy is all haha -since you are frustrated for that, but I guess sometimes tummy’s are the last to go on us ladies? I have had 5 kids, so I guess there’s that too, it did get stretched out a lot during the pregnancies, hehe.
@gingersmommy Thanks Marianne =).
Let me first say… wow! Well done.
Sadly the belly fat is a female hormone driven issue and harder to get rid of.
