Losing inches but not pounds?

(Kristen) #1

Is it possible to be losing inches but not pounds on keto? I haven’t actually lost that much weight overall but I have lost inches per my progress pictures. I’m happy and all, don’tt get me wrong! I just hate seeing my weight on the scale. :frowning:

It happens all the time! It’s called body recomposition. KCKO :cowboy_hat_face:

Ditch your scale, use a tape measure. Your scale can’t tell the difference between muscle and fat.

When I started about 1.5 months ago, I weighed a whopping 214. Now I weigh 203 consistently. I can see the weight loss in weekly progress pics, but I HATE seeing my weight like at the doctors office. It’s so discouraging. Per the scale not much has changed. I’m down a pants size though which is amazinggg!

What is your purpose in eating a ketogenic diet?

If you are fat and wish to become thin, then you appear to be achieving that goal, and the weight of the fat you have lost is irrelevant. It appears that you have also gained muscle and bone density, and the fact that the new lean weight happens to balance the lost fat weight is also pretty much irrelevant.

If your purpose is to make your scale show a smaller number, surely it would be more efficient to have a limb removed, since bone and muscle are much denser than fat, and so you would have a much speedier loss of weight by getting rid of bone and muscle and not concerning yourself with fat.

BTW, it appears that weak muscles and osteoporosis are incompatible with a well-formulated ketogenic diet, so if those are things you value, then keto may not be for you, sorry! Keto is also inconsistent with maintaining systemic inflammation, insulin resistance, atherosclerosis, arterial calcium, high blood pressure, amyloid plaque and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain, diabetes, glycated hemoglobin, gout crystals, kidney and gall stones, fat in the liver, ectopic visceral fat, and so forth, so if you wish to hang on to any of those, that would be another reason to avoid a ketogenic diet.

But you have lost weight - that is 11 pounds in about 6 weeks - almost 2 pounds per week. Seriously, that is a significant amount of weight lost. How much did you expect to lose? Sure, there are people who lose 80 pounds in 7 days (obvious exaggeration) but that is not most of us.

Too many people have unreasonable expectations of how much weight they are ‘supposed’ to be losing on keto. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but this is the reality for most of us, especially those of the female persuasion.

I continued to lose 4” off of my waist for about 6 weeks. I did lose pounds and inches before, but the inches continued. I’m happy!

Yes, I have lost almost 70 pounds, but have been in a 2 month stall now. But even in the stall, I have lost 2 inches off my waist.

Be patient. Your weight loss is very good. Many people lose less than 1 lb a week. 11/6 = 1.83 lbs a week.

1.83 * 26 = 48 lbs in 6 months. Of course you weight loss over 6 months might be different in the long run.
