LoseIt food tracker - pro-Keto updates

tools

(Rob) #1

I am an iOS user (thanks @Tricia_Roth) of LoseIt for tracking, partly through inertia (I used it for CICO and am familiar with how to manage the food list and avoid the garbage data) and partly due to testing the others and finding them more capable but less user friendly, slightly in the case of MFP and vastly for Cronometer. I have always bemoaned the lack of keto functionality, primarily in the lack of net carbs (though easy to self calculate) and limited keto goals but don’t want to change - too much invested in it (plus a premium subscription).

Well, fellow LoseIt users… if you hadn’t noticed (and it took me a few days). not only have they added net carbs as a goal but also as a view of your daily intake.

This is the net carb view of a meal. You get there by just going to the banner under the orange masthead and you now have many choices of what to show - cals, macros, individual macros, etc.

I thought I’d let other users know in case they haven’t seen it… unless you click on that banner, it is hard to tell there are now options beyond calories. Thanks LoseIt.

PS Apparently it ONLY works on the premium version (thanks @Tmdlkwd) . Android updates are due in 7-10 days (see below).

I just paid for premium, and I don’t have the functionality on my Android phone. They said it should be out in 7 to 10 days for Android users.

(Rob) #3

Good update… they have been accused of being a little slow on the Android side for a long time. Updated accordingly.

(Troy) #4

I have the free version
Or I just downloaded it again to check

NC, looks like it’s a premium feature

How much do they charge for premium?

(Mandy) #6

I’ve been a long time loseit user. Probably 10 years or so. I find it leaps and bounds better than MFP in terms of user interface. I’ve been using it to track net carbs but didn’t know they were coming out with a view like you have @Capnbob. I’m an android user so I guess I can’t have it yet? Lol

@rustyk61 I think a yearly premium membership is 19.99. I find it well worth it as I love the ability to put in meals for days ahead of time. It satisfies my control freak. I also love the ability to connect my Google fit devices for steps and exercise.

I paid $39.99 for the annual subscription. And I asked to cancel when I realized I couldn’t track macros like I wanted. That’s when they told me it would be 7 to 10 days for Android users. So, 6 to 9 now! I’m holding them to it.

(Mandy) #8

Wow… I’m not sure how I got mine so cheap. I think they run promotions often and I grab it then. I’m pretty sure you can get a lifetime membership for $60. Which I suppose if you will be using it for as long as I have, might be worth it!

I’m not a Lose It user, but I have found that there are certain classes of apps where it’s worth your while to pony up for the premium edition. Apps for a smart phone are relatively cheap in the grand scheme of things.

If you think about it, why would someone go through all the trouble of developing an extremely useful and fully featured app just to give it away? There is always the theory that if you pay for it, you’re the customer, if it’s free you’re the product (yes folks, your data is being collected and possibly sold).

I’m a software developer by trade and I could tell by looking at the app I use that someone had put some work into it.The app I use has a large database of foods and a bar code reader for the things I still eat that have a bar code attached. The macros are automatically broken down.

Point being is for whatever they get for it (I think mine worked out to less than one USD a month if I paid for a year, the app all of a sudden it becomes exponentially more useful. Once again, not an endorsement of the app I use. mine had a steep learning curve … and I haven’t used all it’s features. There aren’t any good (that I have found and would call good) tutorials on it. I use it as @Capnbob phrased it because of inertia. I learned it and I don’t want to change now.

(Mandy) #10

Ha… I think that’s how most people feel. While I love the UI of loseit, I’ve been scanning and entering food for 10 years. The database overall is fantastic but by this point I have so much invested in my own data that moving will never be an option for me. With that said, my database is full of food I ate as a sugsr burner so who’s to say I even need that stuff! I also agree that apps aren’t really that expensive. If the app is well put together, I have no problem donating to the effort put in. It’s really a small price to pay for what I consider an extremely helpful tool.

(Rob) #11

And THERE lies another reason why I would have a hard time moving to another app. When I started keto I collected some recipes and meticulously broke down the macros by hand … ingredient by ingredient. I bit the bullet and made the portion size small enough to where I could eat multiple portions in a given day without exceeding any limits. I trust those numbers and the closet obsessive that lives inside of me is satisfied with the numbers the app tracks as most of the database items I use have my special prefix on the name indicating I did the macro/portion math.

(Mandy) #12

LOL… I could have written this myself. Same same same. Only my obsessive isn’t so closet!

(Tricia) #13

Thanks for the info! I use lose it as well!

Just noticed the net carbs choice up top on my android app now!

#17

My android device just updated several days ago but now I can no longer slide the button that closes out the daily food log without it shutting down the whole program, is anyone else having this issue?

(Mandy) #18

I’m not having that issue but I cannot search any longer. It just spins and spins and the search offline text appears. I sent tech support an email and they asked me to turn off my wifi. Bam… It works. Obviously this is not a solution I am OK with. There is zero wrong with my phone wifi, using it right now. New bugs maybe?

#19

How did you contact tech support? I have the free version and didn’t see anyway to notify them of the issue.

(Mandy) #20

I’m a premium member, not sure that matters. In the app if you click “me”, at the bottom is “help”. You can browse open issue or contact support at the bottom.
