I did keto last fall and had great success. Things in my life changed (all for the better) and I fell off the wagon. I walked away from keto for awhile and now I’ve decided to restart. I use a keto mojo blood meter and for some reason I can’t get above a .5 and if I do, it’s short lived. The first time I did keto i had no issues getting to a 2 or above and staying there. Yesterday I kept myself at 16 total carbs for the day, under 1000 calories and I woke up at a .2 on my blood meter. I’m just not understanding why it’s so damn difficult this time!!
Looking for advice
It’s because you’re still fairly adapted. If you didn’t gain any significant weight over your break, you were in Maintenance, and can just pick up where you left off.
You’re fine. Don’t chase ketone numbers.
I went from 127lbs back up to 147lbs. I’m not losing weight either. I’ve actually gained 3lbs
Everybody’s different, but I would encourage you to put the meters, pee sticks, scale, etc. away. If you did this before with great success, you must have a pretty good sense of how to do it and what/how to eat.
I would just encourage you to follow the basics - keep your carbs under 20g/day (this will put you in ketosis), eat enough fat, eat to satiety (and 3x/day when first starting), don’t snack, get enough salt, and don’t count calories. After a 2-3 weeks of this (or less), your body will have an aversion to eating that often and you will naturally reduce the number of times a day you eat.
Your body will take it from there. It has a lot of internal healing to do, and the wonderful side effect is to discard excess fat. Good luck.
Well, you probably gained some fat. You must have gone back to your old pattern, rather than eating lower carb . Naughty girl! It’s OK, just climb back up onto the old Keto Horse.
I did not go back to old habits, I ate strict keto all week, just not sure what the delay is! I’ll keep at it!
Welcome!
If you gained that much weight and have only been eating strick keto for a week it sounds more like you’re starting from scratch and it will take time to get well get fully adapted. Patience.
I believe he meant when you “fell off the wagon”. That’s what your post is about. You didn’t state how long you’ve been back to keto, maybe you just need a little more time.
Stay with it! Remember, the way your body and brain’s clarity heals and feels is “far more better” than that cheat or walking away from Keto. Also, it is hard some days and easier others. You’ll get there! download a Keto app (free) I use Carb Manager and record everything you eat and it will actually show you how much fat, carb, etc., you’ve put in your body for the day and still need. I put in for me as a Keto lifestyle so then it helps you with the rest, it’s great! Accountability will help you with your goal to jump back in!
I hope this helps
I do use carb manager, just didn’t think it would take me a week plus to get back deep into it
Did you synchronize your mojo with the doohickey test strip that they give you for each container of strips. I have no idea whether that makes a difference or not but I just read about that the other week when I couldn’t figure why my readings were so low.
I didn’t consistently get over 1.0 until my 6th week in with carbs as low as I could go, similar to yours. Prior to that I was always, .5 then Lo, then .7 then .2 then Lo, so frustrating. Now I’ve run out of strips which I ordered a week ago. Personally I like checking ketones as it gives me a kick when I can get above 1 when my BG is less than 90. ( Winner Winner )
Yes I did do the code thing! You sound just like my current situation!! That’s exactly how I am, .6 then .2 then Lo. It’s so frustrating!
Ketones, like glucose, will fluctuate during the day. Stress, sleep, exercise, and food all play a role in what the levels of each are.
Some days you’ll have great numbers, and other days they won’t be so great.
Yep. I eat one meal and here are measurements from last month (testing right before eating)
There were a few days I had some good readings, but for one reason or another many were lower than my average.
I’m so glad I found this. All the keto pages on Facebook are awful!
This forum is the best one on the internet, in my opinion. The people are all doing the same Keto lifestyle, and very willing to share all their own experiences, and give great advice and encouragement to each other. This lovely group of people here makes an amazing difference for many of us succeeding on our Keto Journey.
I don’t know if you know about the 2KetoDudes Podcast? They started this forum and are the owners of it, and have amazing podcasts, if you want to listen to them as well. Links for them are on the front page of forum =).
Did you happen to check out Dr Fung’s Fan Page (support group) on Facebook? I have been debating if I want to sign up for FB just for the purpose of accessing his page
