Do you find keto becomes a lifestyle and no longer hard to stay on? I naturally think of the keto option nowadays and I don’t even think about the American Standard diet anymore. When I first try keto and begin this lifestyle it was super hard for me to resist like burritos so I would simply not do anything that involves burritos or go down that aisle for the burrito ingredients. But now the first thing I said to myself it so how can I make that Keto? Do you all find this to be true? Do you no longer struggle with the American Standard diet and craving and wanting those type of foods? And those of you who are regulars you know what happened to me when I ate outside of Keto about 2 or 3 weeks ago LOL no need to relive that tail
Longtime KETO (ers)
Great post, Karla - sounds like keto is really suiting you!
For me it’s definitely a lifestyle - it’s not hard to stay on. I have the extremely strong motivation of keeping the line on my blood glucose meter as straight as I can, and before I started keto this was extremely hard to achieve!
Because I monitor all the time (I have type 1 diabetes) I can see minute by minute the effect that keto has - and for that reason I’m not tempted to do anything else.
I can basically eat anything I want, it is the awareness of what I’m eating that is key for me. Long-term ketogenic diet has the advantage (a built-up health reserve) of being capable of eating anything you want without consequence but that includes discipline?
My personal take-away-message to myself:
-
Don’t eat to much of that?
-
Stay the hell away from table sugar as much as possible including deadly man made artificial sweeteners (glucose intolerance[6]) especially high fructose corn syrup and know the hidden names[3] of HFCS?
Note: ”…Free fructose vs. naturally occurring: So, too much fructose is no good. However, it is important to differentiate between free or added fructose over the fructose packaged into whole foods. It is generally agreed that consuming fructose when encased in its natural form, such as in fruit and vegetables, isn’t of concern. …” …More

Thankfully, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stepped up and turned down their request to rename HFCS to the more natural sounding term “corn sugar.” …” “…Here are a few other deceptive names of HFCS that you should look out for: maize syrup, glucose syrup, glucose/fructose syrup, tapioca syrup, fruit fructose and crystalline fructose…” “…The toxic ingredient now called fructose, or fructose syrup, contains even higher concentrations of harmful HFCS, making it more of a health risk than regular HFCS. Regular HFCS (HFCS-42 or HFCS-55) contains either 42 or 55 percent fructose, while HFCS-90 contains 90 percent. The Corn Refiners Association stated, “A third product, HFCS-90, is sometimes used in natural and ‘light’ foods, where very little is needed to provide sweetness. Syrups with 90% fructose will not state high fructose corn syrup on the label, they will state ‘fructose’ or ‘fructose syrup. ” …” …Source: Food companies hiding harmful high fructose corn syrup under new name Monday, December 12, 2016 by: Amy Goodrich

Me and the wife had the conversation the other day with me leaning more towards eating a modified PSMF lately and her eating a little more carbs to whether we would continue to eat keto. On the weekends I’ve been eating “normal” which is keto but when we were thinking about the kind of meals we’d eat… we literally couldn’t come up with stuff! Even if we were to start eating a lot more carbs (still low carb though) when you cut out the complete garbage there’s not a whole lot left. We’ve been keto for too many years I think to even become “normal” again. I more or less walk the line of LCHF and true keto these days because it’s allowed me to put some muscle back on where I’ve struggled huge and lost strength the last couple years and think that’s probably the sweet spot for me. One thing I caught from only about a month on mostly PSMF is that my HDL went from awesome to suck! Bringing back the avocados!
It’s my normal now, I don’t really think much or debate myself regarding foods I don’t eat.
It was easy for me straight away as I felt so much better and that was a great incentive to stay on track, but it did used to be a lot more effort when I worried about tracking and macros. Now it’s just how I eat and doesn’t need thinking about.
Just my way of life now. I have substitutions for just about anything now I make keto wraps and so I can have the rest of the burrito because I never did like beans I like meat burritos I like meat a lot so even though I’m not a carnivore it is the foundation of my eating. I eat above ground vegetables and I use garlic powder and onion powder and some onions and I eat the berries. I eat an occasional apple or pear when they’re in season I was never a sugar eater. Only thing I miss is homemade bread but now I do only keto breads and I am so much healthier now I really had a bad sensitivity to wheat.
It’s pretty much just the way I eat now and I don’t have to track anything or worry about macros anymore. I feel so much better on keto and enjoy the food that it makes it easy.
When I do indulge in more carbs I try to stick to real food.
