Longest recorded Fast

I keep reading references to the gentleman in Scotland in 1973 that fasted for 382 days.

So I googled it and found this link that talks about the study of this fellow. I’d like to see the complete study, listing everything, including his vitals and blood work. In my opinion, it sounds like just a normal extended fast. The only difference being he had so much body fat, he was able to live off it for a very long time.

My starting weight was even higher. I thought briefly about trying to beat the record, but since I’ve struggled to get past 5 days EF, I don’t think it’s going to be my best option.

What’s that old adage? “Slow and steady wins the race” or something like that. Trying to force yourself could hurt you. So good on ya for deciding NOT to try that. Angus had a doctor monitoring his progress. Even I told my VA docs what I was doing, just so they ‘knew’. I even had to beat it into one of them so to speak. I had to repeatedly tell him I stopped taking my meds months ago, with his reply, each time, “vely good. Don’t stop because the spike in BG will be very harmful”. Eventually I got through to him. And he said, “oh? That’s interesting. Keep doing whatever it is you are doing then”.

[FYI: I did stop taking my Metformin for a few months. I restarted it to see if I had any issues with side effects, or ultra low BG. I have heard that Metformin helps to heal insulin resistance. So far, so good. Even at the max dose, 1,000 mg 2x a day, I’ve had thee days in the past few months where my BG dipped into the 60’s while fasting. I have continued it since.]
