Long time Carnivore and Nocturnia

(Peter Rossa) #1

Hi guys, nice to be here, looking for a help with some nocturnia issues,
Im a long time keto/carnivore/lowcarb veteran (about 4 years now) when I started I immediately felt great, digestion was great, (small and less frequent poop) I loved it since day 3, it was going very well for years, (occasionally I went dirty, I had to deal with some of my very bad habits, like beer or some carbs) after about 2 years and stopped drinking and smoking completely and started working out more, but then in around year 3 I started having serious constipation issues, for a while I went back to medium carb "normal" way o eating, constipation went away but I felt terrible (brain fog etc.) so I went back to carnivore and constipation came back, (reapeated this maybe 3 times).... (after some time Ive figure it out that I do need some carbs to properly poop) so right now Im eating one medium banana, and some berries everyday, not sure if that will work nice for me long term but I feel great. The real issue is with Nocturnia and peeing a lot during the day, (I do apparently have a week pelvic floor Ive been visiting urological physiotherapist) *and when I workout during the day I can pee like 3 times during 1 hour, and then like 4 times at night*, but I dont think its only this, something else is contributing to this:
Solt ! - if I will solt my meal, I will have to pee a lot every 20 minutes few times in a row, and a lot more during the night, I have tried to completely remove solt for weeks now, it isnt helping Im still peeing at night at least twice, (should I avoid beef for now ? since its high sodium food?) … (during my constipation struggles I did in fact ate huge amount of solt for a while)
Groin and pelvic floor - I have a groin pain (injury of an adductor muscles) after sprinting, started shock wave rehabilitation yesterday and tonight I had to wake up something like 10 times to pee, since this is near to pelvic floor, and all is connected there it also had to affect on peeing
Coffe drinker - since peeing issues I did try to quit coffe once (for 3 weeks no tea or caffe, only water) I still had to woke up at night 2 / 3 times, (but in general during the day I was peeing a little bit less)… before my “constipation journey” xD I was drinking tons of coffee and was exposes to lots of stress, should I check my adrenal gland, can it contribute to nocturnia ?
Protein - after my constipation issues I did figure it out that I need much more protein than fats, I have researched this and found many contradicting opinions, that too much protein either can couse problems for kidneys, or that it can`t

Eating late - if I eat late evening (my usual ground beef, pretty lean something like 85/15, maybe even 90)
I`m peeing more at night, if I eat boiled eggs I pee the usual amount or less, (I think its sodium in beef?)

what do You guys think ? its nice to finally write all this down, it makes my head clearer I think all of this is contributing to my Nocturnia, I would love to get some tips,
my supplements: magnesium, vit d3+k2
I`m supplementing : ashwaganda (helps me deal with stress / deeper sleep)
I was trying to supplement potassium (even 6000 ui for 3 days, didnt helped)
Im doing lower abdominal breathing exercises they seem to be helpful at least for less bathroom trips during day, but sometimes if I do too much of them late evening I can get up to pee more, once after doing them I dot up once during the night (so maybe its just coincidence)

How long have you been having the issue?
Is there any discomfort when you pee?
How much urine would you say you are producing - is it a normal amount every time (let’s say at least a cup), or just a few tablespoons?
I’m assuming from your name that you are biologically male. How old are you, and have you had your prostate checked?

Hi kib1 ! thanks for reply:
issue persist since 3 months, no discomfort
I started measuring urine 5 days ago, its about: 220 ml (if I eat solt is up to 300 ml and much more frequent)
yes biological male, 38 years old, prostate is normal

Age? I have been eating Keto/Low carb for 5 years now, and for the last two years I have also been suffering from nocturia. I’m 76, run a lot and generally try to live healthily. I believe that there are up to 20 different possible causes of nocturia, so possibly this isn’t a theme for this forum. I recently went back to Switzerland from Thailand and for five days, no problems. As far as I know I was eating the same food, etc so nothing to do with diet, maybe climate.

Hi David ! Im 38 years old, yeah maybe I should seek help in other forums but Im sure that someone here could figure it out why I pee more after sodium consumption  its really weird for me, since usually from what Im reading online people are increasing salt intake for water retention, and its opposite for me

David
so you are saying that you are running a lot ? (maybe you stopped running for a while becouse of your traveling ?) inner leg muscles are connected with pelvic floor which have a lot to do with peeing, or maybe you have rich a point of stronger adductor muscles, thus the ability to pee less appeared , (for me nocturia started when I was sprinting and got the leg injury, maybe it`ll go away after healing)

Actually you are right to question salt intake. Salt can cause water retention, but it can also increase urination. Your kidneys work to remove excess salt, and water comes with it.

Your doc should have you taking Vasopressin, which is the hormone that makes you NOT do that! It’s produced normally which is why we’re not all getting up as our bladders fill at night.

There’s nothing conflicting, protein hurting (healthy) kidneys, is very much debunked for years now.

It seems there must be some other health issue going on here besides weak pelvic floor, especially with your response to salt. Unless you are eating processed beef, all natural beef is not high is sodium. Is it possible you are having some kind of allergic reaction to it?

Have you had your kidneys checked? Could you have a urinary tract or kidney infection? How’s your blood sugar levels? I have two friends who developed type 1 diabetes as middle-aged adults. Frequent urination is one of the symptoms. I think you need to visit some doctors and have some things checked out.

thats interesting, thank You, I`ll ask the doctor about it,

(Peter Rossa) #10

thank You Edith I will check, my blood sugars after meal, but I dont think so, I have no other symptoms of high blood sugar (Im not tired after a meal, even a large one, no brain fog, nothing) and my urination frequency is increasing at night (even if I eat first and last meal at 12.00 am) so Im peeing more when my insulins is dropping. Maybe its kidneys I was also thinking about them, but how should I check them, (of course I`ll also ask the doctor and reaseach it myself xD)…?
my urological physiotherapy already confirmed that I do have a weak bladder, and exercises are helping, Im having less bathroom trips doring the day, also gonna have pelvic floor checked in a week

(no processed meat, not even a sausage ! and I`m Polish  ) (should I check how I feel without beef? (only pork, turkey, chicken?, (its not gonna be easy to get lamb in poland)

My husband is of Polish descent and I am of German descent. I agree, not being able to eat sausage would be very sad.

I am Hungarian and even just not eating sausage with paprika would be disconcerting at this point (it wasn’t in my long vegetarian years) and I do like white sausages too. But I still would give up sausage before I would do the same with dairy…

I can’t offer anything useful but good luck to solve this problem!
