Been on keto since January…had lipids done in March and just last week… cholesterol, LDL, HDL all went up a few in two months but triglycerides went down. I never felt better …inches are melting off. Just a little concerned about numbers. I will continue keto and have lipids done again in July. Just would like some feedback on anyone else who’s numbers have gone up. I’m focusing mostly on healthy fats.
Lipid profile concerns
If you want a good analysis of your cholesterol composition you need to do a particle size test like NMR LipoProfile. (There are several different kinds of particle test, that’s just an example). LDL comes in different particle sizes and it’s only the very small ones that have any link to arterial disease, but a standard panel won’t tell you what your LDL is made up of.
In general, falling triglycerides and falling small particle LDL seem to go hand in hand, so I don’t know if I’d splurge $100 for NMR at this point unless your numbers are crazy high or your Dr. is being a butt.
Remember, you WANT HDL to go UP and trigs to go down. LDL going up is a typical but non-worrying side effect of moving to primary fat burning. As @kib said, you’d need a fraction to test this but I haven’t seen people going keto and also having the bad kind of (bad) cholesterol (LDL). Sounds all good from here. KCKO
