Learned my lesson

#1

I know this isn’t the first time a post like this has been made… but tonight I definitely learned my lesson! :joy:

Only 16 days back on keto and have been testing moderate to high with ketostix daily. I have felt amazing and have finally mastered how to eat less than 20g of carbs per day. Today we celebrated my husband’s birthday with friends. We both decided to indulge on the craft beer (our favorite) and burgers with sweet potato fries at his favorite restaurant!

I couldn’t even make it out the door before I started feeling the regret and serious sickness in my stomach. Now here I lay in bed regretting my poor choices (while he sleeps peacefully) and hoping I don’t vomit :joy:

Bunny, Bunny, Bunny why so sad you should feel blessed to have an “indulgence Day” :hamburger:  :yum:

The beauty of IF/EF and Keto WOE is that “Indulgence Days” are a great excuse to do a 2 or 3 day EF :grinning:

Long gone are LFHC 1000 calorie diets were a cheat day will set you back weeks or make you give up.:disappointed:

2 or 3 days EF and your back in Ketosis and you get the health benifits :star_struck:

" Indulgence Days" and EF does a body good :innocent:

I joined in a morning tea on what was intended to be a fat fast day. No problem. KCandKO. This is helping my body and it is happy.

Great point, drinking my keto coffee and I really do feel great this morning!

Good Morning Bunny,

Thank you so much for sharing. What a great opportunity to learn and a few, a very luck few, might even be able to learn from your experience without having to make the exact same mistake.

I am glad you are feeling much better this morning.

Keto for Life,

Warmest Regards,
Richard

Nice. Continue to hone your skills.

Old habits die hard.

Next time try a chicken Cesar salad and one of these.

Actually your cheat meal is legit.
I’m glad you did it.
I’m scheduling your next cheat meal.
… at his next birthday !
Look forward to it !

Feeling bad after eating something you shouldn’t is good feedback!! Your body is telling you, “don’t do that anymore”. And when you’re tempted, you’ll remember how you felt when you did.

Next time, you may make a little different choices, even if it’s just adjusting the amounts of the not so good stuff down some or making choices that are more keto friendly.

But hey, stuff happens. You go on from here. Look forward, not back. Forgive yourself for what you did in the past because there isn’t a thing in the world any of us can do to change the past. And no sense worrying about the future as it isn’t here yet. Make good choices for today and just keep doing that day after day.

Jealous over here. I cooked a bunch of deep fired chicken legs for everyone here. They smelled so good I couldn’t resist. After all they only have about 5 carbs each. So I had 3, for 15 grams of carbs. Oh they were so good. I’m Type 2 diabetic. My next glucose test (maybe as long as 2 hours later) showed me at 159. Should have been around 110 after eating a no carb dinner like I usually do.

I jumped on the stationary bike for an hour to get rid of all that sugar. When done it was back in the 90’s. I felt like crap the rest of the night, and next morning. Blood sugar was 138. Normally about 100.

I didn’t learn my lesson either. Four days later I repeated the exact same thing . I put on nearly 10 pounds. But have since lost it all again.

To sum up, my deranged metabolism can’t handle a measly 15 grams of carbs without causing me a ton of grief. So I’m back to keeping my target goal for carbs at zero. Which makes it much easier to do. If => 1 gr carb, don’t eat it. Period.

Breaded ?
where is the 5 carbs ?

(Consensus is Politics) #12

Yes. Made an egg wash with milk and ranch dressing, dredged in that rolled in flour with seasoning, dredged a second time and rolled again. Made a slightly thick and crunchy coating. I did it once with coconut flour, but it came out extremely dark brown. Wife thought there were burnt, but they weren’t. They tasted pretty good. I might try doing that again at a lower temp and see if it browns instead.

Curiosity question from a newbie: what’s the scientific reason we feel physically ill after ingesting too many carbs? Is it a blood sugar/insulin thing?

I know I was terrified to give up gluten 6 months ago because I read about horror stories of how ill people got if they were accidentally glutened so I have had a few here and there just to keep gluten a familiar thing to my body.

I’ve never felt bad from eating too many carbs before. Before Keto, I had abused my pancrease something horrible. I’d eat an entire box of Little Debbie cakes. The cake and icing kind. Not to mention finish off the rest of a birthday cake that’s been left in my fridge. I’d eat one large pizza by myself in one sitting, and eat some of another.

But after being Dx with T2D, and starting Keto again, it definitely made me feel ill. I’m thinking now it does that because I’m insulin resistant, and it’s just the amount of sugar hanging out in my blood. Or perhaps the insulin being pumped out there to take care of it, or worse yet, maybe my pancreas getting back at me for working it so hard.

Have you tried Fried Chicken Zorn Style? I’m going to try it later today. I’ll probably post a rave on the recipe thread if it works out (I can’t deep-fry, I will have to pan fry it.).

I’ve read that if you want to transition back into a high carb diet, (or even for one meal), it needs to be done gradually. Starting first with some fruit for a few days and gradually increasing slowly your carb intake.
Perhaps doing this the week before the birthday event, would’ve made the meal more enjoyable. Then by all means, fast afterwards if you want to get back into Ketosis.

I have no problems transitioning between carbs and fat for fuel and will be back in ketosis the next day if I drop out
