LCHF and Butter (zoe harcombe article)

Surely when you are at your ideal bodyweight/free of excess fat you would need to up your fats?

Otherwise aren’t you at risk of struggling for energy - you no longer need to eat at a deficit (give or take)?

#22

you add 100gr with butter to a meal?!?

@ChubbyFrenchAsian indeed butter everywhere UNTIL you are mostly fully ‘fat adapted’. Butter on cheese, butter (or other good fat) for a growly tummy before bed, etc. Personally I found 1-2 tblsp coconut oil added to my coffee or smoothies to have more positive impact for my brainz than butter - though I certainly use both - due to the medium chain triglycerides thing.

You’ll know when you’re fat-adapted because your appetite will crash and skipping meals becomes so easy that you end up naturally practicing ‘intermittent fasting’ a few days a week, etc. It’s a law of nature  However - getting to the 100% fat adapted point takes many weeks beyond the commonly focused on initial two weeks (the induction period of Atkins diet). The first two weeks may get you to 80% fat adapted, but it may take a couple more months or even a year to get to 90%-100% fat adapted.

And once that high level of fat adaptation happens, if you want to recompose excess fat, getting 50% of your fat from your food and the rest burned from your own body is the secret. Also, I have found that supplementing with Ginger capsules (which reduce cortisol and insulin, and suppress appetite) to be very helpful in speeding belly fat burning in case that is of interest to you. Many studies out there on the cortisol-belly fat topic.

How do you define appetite crashing?

#25

Hmm… fat-adapted satiety physiologically extending itself naturally - for a good 6-8 hours/workday - and then towards even pleasurable 24 hour fasting! I think it began with naturally smaller portions being satisfying, all those months ago. It began on its own - the body did it, I certainly didn’t have an objective to eat less!

I also addressed enzyme balance by taking Ginger capsules to help gut healing and ensure that I was absorbing nutrients well rather than having a false satiety due to congestion or bloating.

My appetite has never crashed. Still have moderate hunger.

I get hyungry every 4 hours, sometimes 3.

i guess people are different. there’s no way of knowing for sure if the body is adapted, assuming that is what is happening

100g butter (or any fat I guess) would be almost 1000 calories a meal!

That s exactly the Road of Keto :)) Loosing - Plateauing - Intermittent Fasting - OMAD - Fasting !! Nearly everyone has the same path. I m in Fasting Stage now :)))

I wish people wouldn’t talk as if what works for them works for everyone.

I am fat adapted. Been keto for years. And if someone had EVER told me to eat 100g of fat with meals I would have dismissed them as a crackpot. Or been physically sick if I had tired it.

Specific prescriptions of fat (or other macro nutrient) grams per day intake is impossible. People vary so much in medical history, height, weight, age, activity, climate… the list is endless. We each need to approach this with an understanding that we are similar in some ways and different in others.
