Late period with low carb... Should I stop?

(Kiana Lashomb) #1

I do not have a regular doctor. I have been on a low carb diet for a month now and my first period since I started was supposed to start on Saturday. It is now Monday and the monthly visitor has not arrived. I wonder if I should stop? I say “low carb” because my carb count varies between days. But I normally eat 20-30 carbs a day. Anyone else have this happen and what did you do? Is it bad?

Keto rebalances hormones so there are often changes in the cycle as you go through this process.

My understanding is that hormones are in your fat stores and as you lose the fat, the hormones shift too. I wouldn’t worry, give your body time to readjust.

I’m in the same boat. Stated keto four weeks ago and now my period is two weeks late. I am NEVER late. Never been on birth control - have had several pregnancies and my period was always good. Now it’s off ??

Calorie restriction is known to stop periods. Are you under-eating?

Hi Kiana, I learnt that hormones are stored in fat, and when your fat diminishes the hormones are released and can affect your periods. Perhaps you can Google to find out more, from what I have mentioned

Not as many carbs in the diet and may happen when your in a mimicking fasting state like a ketogenic diet or fasting in general, it tells the body that it’s not time to reproduce because your in a reduced fed state!

I often question the monthly period menses cycle thing and the SAD diet and if that is even really normal?

I could see our early ancestors (wonder if there is any other history on this?) not having this supposed monthly if they are not eating all this processed food?

Why women may require less food than men, eating half of what a male eats?

And why we gain weight so fast and can’t lose it?
