I have lost 77 pounds so far since started keto in December. Only 10 pounds to go that’s actually 10 pounds more then I used to be before my 2 pregnancies. Lately I am not able to stick to keto more than 2 days. I am in this circle of loosing and gaining 2-3 pounds every week. Can anyone suggest how to get rid of these last 10 pounds. I am 38 YO 5’4” weighing 138 right now. Please advice. Thanks in advance!!
Last 10 pounds
I think we’d need a bit more info about why you are “not able to stick to keto”?
Have you tried any fasting if you are getting urges to eat non keto food.
You have lost an amazing amount of weight in a very short time.
A keto way of eating is for most of us not something you can do for 1 - 2 days and in the rest of the days just eat carbs. After consuming carbohydrates your body switches to burning glucose instead of fat and it takes a couple of days of strict keto to turn your body back to burning fats.
As Marc said… what is it in keto that you find particularly hard to do / follow / eat? And what is different in the last couple of weeks when you compare it with the previous months where you did follow keto successfully and lost an amazing amount of weight?
keto is a consistent very low carb way of eating. If you are eating low carb 2 days a week then that is what you are doing but it’s not keto. Sorry to put it bluntly.
I think I just give in a moment. For example last night I was feeding my daughter and she did not finish her food they I finished it and ate and more. I think it just stress of life I am giving into.
But I’ll be stricter from today. I have done it I know what to do. Also I m stuck at this weight for long that’s also making me eat in frustration. Anyone has tricks for breaking stall. How did anyone lost those last pounds.
I have usually used fasting… however please remember that the number you have in your head for the last 10 pounds may well not be where your body wants to be. And if it doesn’t want to be there then you’ll have one hell of a battle. I have experienced a stall of over 18 months and still can’t get to the weight I "want’ to be. That hasn’t stopped me losing 120 pounds without any regain but mentally it can be tough.
Still I’m not changing my way of eating because of the stubborn 20 pounds that refuse to go…
I am on my last 7 pounds although my weight loss has been much slower than yours. I was able to change my habits by telling myself certain things over and over again. I just posted this the other day on a different thread, you might find his techniques really helpful. Especially the part about talking to the future you - never underestimate how powerful your mind it. Changing Bad Habits - not relying on willpower
It’s easy to fall into this trap when you have reached 90% of your goal. You start to think “well now I can loosen up a bit” and bam! You’ve torpedoed yourself.
I would just keep calm and keto on. Have some bacon and eggs, throw away the peanut butter (or whatever tempts you) and power through those cravings until they subside.
I certainly understand frustration eating! But make sure that when you eat, it’s protein and fat, not carbohydrate. In other words, go for the pork rinds, not the potato chips! I can’t control the other people in my household, but I do most of the cooking, so at least the meals are keto. If they don’t finish their plates and I snack on the leftovers, at least I’m not harming myself. What they do when they cook for themselves is their problem, lol!
I am not typically a faster so I really haven’t done much testing on that . I am in the middle of an experiment with 8 pounds to go to see if adding cardio combined with strength training will change things up. I set my cardio at running 30+ miles a week and visit the gym three days a week. I can feel my muscle mass increasing however at two and a half weeks in I have lost one pound. I was expecting to gain or maintain so I hope this means I am getting a good fat burn out of it.
I’m 34yo 5’5" a toddler mom, formerly obese and now weigh 133# so I think we have a lot in common.
I’ve been losing and regaining the last 10# all year, so I don’t have any wisdom for our situation. I lose it pretty quickly through fasting then I maintain for a little while through strict keto then I eat whatever I want and gain it back and start over. My ideal weight is 120# and I’ve seen that number twice this year.
Try a full day fast to reset your cravings and go strict keto from there.
First you’ve lost 77 lbs. in about 5 months, that’s phenomenal!
And then you’re saying you’ve been stalled at this weight for “A long time”. A stall is considered 6 weeks or more. So unless your weight is the same as it was during the last weeks of March/beginning of April you are not stalled.
If anything is a problem it’s weekly carb binges, not a problem with keto not working and getting stalled but the actual problem is you’re not eating a Ketogenic Diet. My grandmother got really obese because my aunt as a child ate like a bird and grandma grew up in the depression and wasting food was a sin to her. Well that philosophy also ended up leading her to an early death. Certainly not the point of food which should be good for you and life giving.
You need to re-evaluate your notions of food and it’s value, good for you or detrimental. Why not save the kids leftovers for their lunch the next day instead of using as an excuse to undermine your efforts to become healthy again through eating a Ketogenic Diet? I don’t really want to use the “N” word here but most of us in the world manifest this kind of behavior when we don’t really think through the moment and react to our own detriment. Focus on your goals, be strong in your resolve to change your habits or you will be in this cycle until you bottom out and loose all your progress. And common knowledge here that the last 10# are the hardest to shed. This isn’t the time to start giving into those old carb cravings, it’s the time to buckle down and get where you want to be, don’t ease up. I have faith in your ability to do this. Be proud of your 77 lb. loss and go forward, not back. Inspire yourself with your own accomplishment and be proud of it. Use it to say, “I’m stronger than this”. I would really like to see your username to change from Pasta 1 to something like keto winner that reflects and reinforces the NEW
you.
For me, it helps me to mentally declassify carbs as food.
I wouldn’t put cardboard or wood chips or antifreeze in my mouth, so why would I put a leaf or root or artificial plastic looking things (pasta) in my mouth?
Once I no longer identified carbs as food, I didn’t even consider putting them in my mouth. The downside is that I mentally cringe when I see other people eat that stuff… like watching adults eating out of a dumpster… gross but I don’t let it show. Well - I try to hide my disgust.
On the upside, if they ask me about all the fat I eat… they’re in for it.
I agree with this! I lost 50lbs in 4 months and have been stalled almost 8 months until recently! Your body has went through a huge change! You did it for 5 months then you can do it again! Will power!
A couple of years ago, someone on these forums suggested thinking of carbohydrate as “deathfood.” I wish I could remember who it was, because I owe him a big debt.
Hmm, both of these are good. The one I heard was “carbs are a condiment” which was a good visual for me, that they should be a very small amount overall. But
And
Are both good too.
