Ladies help?! Monthly issue!

Ok so I have been on keto for the past month and now it’s time for my period to begin in a couple days. Quick question, I feel bloated and actually gained a pound when I checked today. Is this normal? Also I did a keto strip today and from the color it states I’m “moderately” keto. Ugh can someone explain to me?! I stay under 20 net carbs a day. Also my weight loss journey got slow now… I maybe lose 1 pound a week. Is that the average for this diet?? Sorry. I’m still new so it would be great to get some insight on those who have been doing this for a while! Thank you!

So a couple of questions:

  1. age
  2. why are you doing Keto
  3. what kind of “strip” are you using
  4. what does the weight mean to you
  5. are you losing any inches or do your clothes fit better
6 do you have kids or stress
7 have you thought about hormone testing

So I’m 25. I’m doing the keto to lose weight I started off 220 lbs August 2. Now I’m 206. However last week when I checked I was 205. So i am not sure if it’s cause my period is going to start in a few days or what. I use the urine tests I bought from the pharmacy. Other color was always dark purple. Today I checked it was like a pink-purple.

Also no kids. And normal stress with school and what not

A month is such a short amount of time. You really have to stay patient with your progress. Are there any positive outcomes from Keto? If you feel the need to weigh then you need to do a weekly average. Everyone’s weight fluctuates daily. Urine strips are notoriously inaccurate. If you are showing high levels of ketones, that might mean you are not using them properly. It is best to stay at a lower level. Don’t get caught up in chasing ketone numbers. Just work everyday to get more nutritionally dense foods than the day before. If you want to lose weight keep it simple and do steak and a few veggies or eggs and bacon. take a few minutes everyday to learn something new about nutrition. If you stall out and you are not losing inches then consider having hormone testing from a naturapath. Consider walking or yoga. Make sure your sleep is good.

Maybe you could find a buddy that lives near you. That way you could help each other. Also, take time to learn the science of it so that health is your goal and weight loss just follows. There are tons of great keto podcasts that you can listen to while you drive or clean. Some I love are Low Carb Cardiologist, Naturally Nourished, Keto Diet, Livin La Vida Low Carb, Primal Blueprint and many more you can search.

Wow thank you so much! Is there one you recommend the most so I could start with one of those podcasts???

Try listening to an episode from each one and see which one connects most with you. I really love the Cardiologist one but it is because I’m older and more concerned with my emanate death. just kidding but not really. the Naturally Nourished on is a younger woman that does lots about woman and nutrition. They are all good. Sometimes I find an person that is a guest and I listen to all the podcast they have been on and sometimes I stick to one podcast for a while. Have you watched The Magic Pill. It is very good and can be watched on youtube or amazon.

The Keto for Women podcast is a good one, too. And, of course, 2 Keto Dudes
