Hi everyone!
Been Keto for almost 4 years. Have strayed from the path in the past, but have been pretty strict the last 4 months.
Just had some labs done…whaddaya think? Should I be concerned about my LDL?
Total chol: 244
HDL 95
LDL 138
Chol/HDL ratio 2.57
Triglycerides 56.
Thanks for any insight!
Labs interpretation?
I assume as “Judy1” that you’re female? (Normally, few men get to an HDL of 95.) You have a great trigs/HDL ratio, below 1.0 (56/95). That’s a good indicator.
Personally, I wouldn’t be concerned about that LDL (or any LDL level – other than too low – for that matter), but there are those who are convinced (e.g., Peter Attia) that LDL should be as low as possible.
(And I say this as someone who has a low LDL; can’t figure out how to get it higher though.)
Thank you so very much!! Yes I am female:) . Forgot to include that!
Thanks again for your insight😃
Your numbers are just fine. The only slight concern I would have is your LDL being too low. I am serious. The paradigm that LDL is bad is just plain wrong. Anybody trying to drive LDL lower is driving their risk of All Cause Mortality higher. What to do? Eat lots of great natural saturated fat ie fatty meat.
The best marker of CVD risk is Tri/HDL (should be under 2), yours is 0.6. Fantastic! How do we reduce tris? Eat low carb. How do we increase HDL? Eat natural saturated fat ie fatty meat.
Your ratio of triglycerides to HDL is only 0.59, which is phenomenal. Anything under 2.0 (in U.S. measurements) indicates that your cardiovascular risk is minimal. At your level, it has to be non-existent.
In any case, your LDL level is fine, except to a statin manufacturer looking for that $70 million bonus at the end of the year.
