Lab Results--High CRP

(Joanna) #1

Hello! Today I received my lab results from last Friday. I’m pleased that there’s been improvement since April (triglycerides lowered, hdl increased). BUT my C-reactive Protein (CRP) (first time I have had this tested) was 13.1–way above the normal limit of 3. Just wanted to see if anyone had some insight on this. Thank you!

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #2

CRP is an indicator of the presence of inflammation in the body. It can be an indicator of the kind of general inflammation caused by high insulin levels, which makes it useful to know. It can also indicate inflammation from previously high insulin levels that hasn’t healed yet. But it can also indicate that you are coming down with a cold, or you have a wound that is healing, or some other specific kind of inflammation unrelated to your insulin level. If all your other numbers are normal, then elevated CRP is not likely to be anything to worry about.

Did they by any chance do a CBC (complete blood count)? If they did, what is your platelet/white blood cell count? An elevevated WBC is another indication of infection somewhere.

Thank you for the info, Paul! My WBC was normal so I don’t think it was an infection. Thankfully I have an awesome Cardiologist and we’ll meet next week to discuss the results. I thought it was interesting what you noted about inflammation from previously high insulin levels that haven’t healed yet. I think that, when I took the exam, I was coming down with a cold but I’m not positive. Another thing that may have affected the CRP level is a loose-ish molar tooth that I’m dealing with (along with an inflamed gum) no infection though. Not sure how plausible that is (?) Just hoping that the high CRP number doesn’t mean I’m about to keel over! Thanks again for the info!
