Knocked outta ketosis

(Chris) #1

Hey I had pizza for super bowl and it knocked me outta ketosis. Do I need to eat 3 meals again to get back into ketosis faster?

From what I understand you just need to deplete your glycogen stores and once the glycogen is gone your body will start producing ketones again for energy and you will be back into ketosis. I do not believe you need to eat anything, in fact the fasted way as I understand it to get back into ketosis would be to fast after eating the meal that knocked you out.

Ok I have been fasting since 11 pm

Actually, a 24 hour fast will probably be enough to do it.

I measured zero ketones on Saturday morning - after a curry the night before when I thought I was staying keto (no bred, rice etc) but obviously wasn’t.

I ate normally on Saturday, i.e. No breakfast, keto lunch and dinner plus keto snack - back to 0.6 ketones on Sunday morning.

Did you make or buy the curry? If you bought it the restaurant may have used sugar in the curry sauce maybe? Sweetened coconut milk could of been used? Just some thoughts if you bought it and did not make it yourself.

Ate in a restaurant. Nothing tasted sweet… oh well, it’s not something we do frequently. No biggie.

I feel your pain. I normally will eat some broccoli beef with with a cup of coconut chicken soup when I have my monthly thai lunch and while my glucose does spike a bit I see modest drop in ketones. A couple weeks ago I decided to have a large bowl of the soup for lunch and afterwards my blood sugar REALLY spiked and I saw a massive drop in ketones. I was 48 hours into a fast so my ketones were really high and I was deep into ketosis. It did not completely kick me out but I think if I had not been fasting it would have for sure. I am pretty sure they use sweetened coconut milk to make the soup and that is what did it.

I wonder if the spicy aspects of the curry masked the sweetness from the coconut milk in your case.

You need to do what you originally did to get into ketosis – deprive your body of carbohydrates, either by fasting or eating no-carb foods.

Ive been doing keto faithfully for over 3 months & yesterday I was stressing about my job (Im a teacher - go figure) so I caved & had a big mac & fries…No guilt, nothing…cuz afterwards I started a 36 hour fast! So, as 2 ketodudes woukd say, “get back on that horse.”
