Knocked out of “Ketosis”? Get over it and get back to work

I live in the real world and stuff happens. Whether you choose to get knocked out of Ketosis or it happens accidentally it’s not the end of the world. KNOW that doing so willingly will NOT help you reach your goals and continually allowing yourself to be knocked out accidentally shows a lack of discipline. It’s nothing to be condemned over though but part of this journey is to get to know YOU, why you are on this KETO journey, what your goals are and how/why you stock or don’t stick with them, and why your mind works or doesn’t work as it relates to fat loss or increasing your health/fitness.

Yup.

We definitely live in the real world. And stuff does happen. When it does, we try to be reasonable about our slippage, understand what it is we’re eating or drinking, and then keto on.

I’ve found that my tastes have changed over the last year and even when I slip up… or knowingly indulge in the non-keto world, it’s usually quite small. For instance, I was visiting family over my birthday and they had ice cream for everyone. It was not keto. And mostly to be polite, I had a tiny serving. It was probably 2 TBSP. Seriously, it was small. I enjoyed it somewhat but really did not want any more. And I didn’t have any more. I was perfectly satisfied. A year ago, I’d have eaten at least a pint. I’ve changed. My tastes have changed. And that’s good. Did that knock me out of ketosis? Maybe. I doubt it did for very long. Honestly, I don’t care. It was a single event, not the start of a new habit.

The longer I’m at this way of eating, the less I tend to engage people except when they want to talk about it. Sometimes, I don’t even use the word “keto”. But if someone wants to know how I’ve lost so much weight, I’ll usually start with, “I’ve cut way, way down on the carbs and eliminated almost all of the sugar”. If they’re just curious, that’s usually the end of the conversation. If they’re wanting serious conversational interaction (and many do not), I’ll go farther.

FWIW, today was a new weight low of about the last 17 years or so. It comes off much slower now but I honestly don’t worry about it nor do I worry about whether or not I’m in ketosis. I eat well. I don’t go hungry. I keep the carbs quite low and I eat protein and fat. The last 20 pounds or so, which is all that’s left, may take quite a while. I’m good with that. Life is good.

Same here. Except for these videos and social media I use the same approach.
