Kicked out of Ketosis -- What's your definition?

#1

I keep hearing the phrase “Kicked out of Ketosis”.

Internet searches seem to converge on a couple of options:

  1. Getting low ketone readings.
  2. Some people “can feel it”. What would that mean? How would someone else understand it?
  3. “binge eating forbidden food” (Cake, cookies, candy, pizza…)

Have you been “kicked out of ketosis”?

What is your definition?

2 and 3 for me. If I eat a bunch of carbs, I get hangover symptoms so I can feel I’m out of ketosis. I’ve never tested but it’s easy to tell by how you feel if you’ve been doing it long enough.

My general take on the matter:

“Deathly fear of completely messing up whatever progress has been made up to this point by eating something I shouldn’t have!”

I can definitely feel it. Every once in a while I eat pizza on a given day and I usually go a little bit overboard because it’s not often that I do it. The next morning I can definitely feel that hangover feeling. It’s good to get knocked out of ketosis once in a while because it remind you how good it feels being in it. I usually fast half the day after loading up on carbs though and by the time I eat later on at night I feel good again.

I remind myself how crappy I feel to avoid eating carbs and getting kicked out. My brain apparently loves ketones. I don’t make any changes after other than just going back to the typical routine. I’ll be back in ketosis in a couple days, no need to fast.

I can taste the acetone in my mouth and breath.

Getting “kicked out of Ketosis” means your body is no longer producing Ketones.

2 and 3 since i don’t measure anything… My heart srats racing, i feel like an oven, get moody and irritable and the next day there’s a keto taste in my mouth. The threshold for how much carbs will cause this seems to have increased over time though

1 and 3, my Ketonix readings will drop like a stone and my uncontrollable appetite comes back.
