Kicked out of ketosis after only 4 days. :(

#1

I went into ketosis last week for about 4 days and because my ketone color was dark purple my husband told me I will get sick if I had that many ketones in my urine. He forced me to eat double the amount of carbs than I normally do (I eat under 20g) and today I went ahead and did another test and now I kicked myself out of ketosis. I am very sad about this because I was feeling like I finally did something right. How long will it take me to get back into ketosis if I eat 20 carbs and under again?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this. There are lots of variables at play that could affect how long it will take you.

What I can tell you with more certainty is that keto will probably not give you the results you are looking for if your husband is not on board to help you and you are “forced” by him to eat more carbs. Is he a doctor?

I agree. Maybe your husband needs some more information so he can get on board and be more supportive!! Good luck!!

Yeah maybe I exaggerated when I said “forced” I meant he told me I would get sick and that I need to eat more carbs.
But yes, you are right he does need to be more supportive. I will talk to him about that.
Thank you

No he is not a doctor but he thinks he is. LOL!:joy::joy::joy:

A lot of ketones in the urine means that you’re extreting them as waste and doesn’t represent the actual level of ketones in your blood, urine tests are also pretty unreliable, they are only good when you start your keto diet because you excrete a lot of ketones as waste because you are not used to use them as a main fuel source and so the urine strips can be a indicator of you going into ketosis, if you keep the diet up you will get “fat adapted” meaning you will become more efficient at using ketones and theoretically the amount in your urine should start decreasing then, that’s when you should (if you want and have money to) switch to blood tests.
Do some research and you will find a lot more than what I just said, don’t be afraid, if you don’t have any impairing health conditions you shouldn’t experience any negative effects. (maybe keto-flu, but its no problem, stay hydrated!)
Don’t be sad because you got kicked out of ketosis, get your will power together and have another go at it.

I understand, I also think I am a doctor

LOVE this answer. very real very informative very powerful very supportive thank you so much I will do just that

I think you need to educate your husband on the difference between ketosis and ketoacidosis.

I think you should refrain from taking advice from your husband, regardless of him meaning well.
You will not ever get sick from NOT eating carbs. That is just ridiculous, and yes, I think he needs to be informed about the differences between ketosis and ketoacidosis.

Hey y’all I am back in ketosis since 2 days ago and am really happy.
I did inform my husband on the replies I received and he is all on board to join me.
Thank you all for your comments and support.
