Hello guys,
I´ve been in a ketosis state for one week, after day 3 my ketosis urine test started showing up between 4.0mmol/L to 6.0mmol/L, is it bad?
Thanks in advance!
Mauricio.

Are you a type 1 diabetic? If not then ketones are to be expected on a ketogenic diet
Hey Safi!
thanks for answer back, i am not diabetic, but i am kind of worry because they are really high ( more than 6mmol/L) i´ve read this levels of ketones are dangerous.
Dangerous in a type 1 diabetic who also has high blood sugar but not for someone just starting nutritional ketosis. As I understand it your body has ramped up it’s ketone production due to your new way of eating but the body is not yet able to fully utilise them so spills the excess in your urine. As time goes on you should notice them drop as your body only makes what it needs & uses.
I’m afraid that urine sticks also have a bit of a reputation for being quite inaccurate… they can also be highly influenced by you being dehydrated…
Excessive ketones are not considered dangerous for someone who is not a type 1 diabetic. They are at risk of ketoacidosis.
Ketosis and Ketoacidosis are two completely different things.
Pee strips measure how many ketones are wasted by your urine, and as @MarkGossage said, they are notoriously influenced by your level of water intake.
Though you are not using those ketones effectively yet (fat adaption), you are definitely on the right track and there is no need to be worried.
