Ketosis reached

Well Im not new to keto but Im back to the keto game after a while, thanks to keto I lost 40 pounds in the summer of 2015. However, last year I cheated constantly and didnt go back to keto until now. Thanks to God, I got tired of my fat image and forgot how great I looked with less weight 40 pounds to be exact, and I do miss putting my old clothes. So, this is my second day on my diet, less than 20 grams of carbs and I did a 24 hr intermittent fast and I’m now on keto, I know since I did a test urine and blood. My question is, since Im starting recently in keto, last time I cheated once a week and managed to still lose weight, however, Im scare to do it again and get out of ketosis, what should I do? :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes::confused::confused:

My recommendation is to not cheat. There may be carb-laden foods which will tempt you, but if you resist, I think you’ll find that it gets easier to resist as more time passes without cheating. It has for me.

If you do cheat, do it very, very sparingly.

One time that I cheated was earlier this year when I was invited to a pizza party where the host made the pizza. I explained that I was on a diet, but that I’d have have one slice of pizza. It turned out okay - I was still in ketosis (according to blood testing) the next day, though my blood ketone levels were definitely down. Oh, and the pizza… the sauce tasted really, really sweet to me. I didn’t actually enjoy it that much, though I’m sure that to my pre-keto taste buds, it would have been delicious.

Leanne V seems to indicate that once a week or every other week for dinner , ladies can bump up carbs. Healthy carbs like a bit of beets, or sweet potato. No a price of pie.

3 simple rules:

  1. Don’t cheat.
  2. Eat real food.
  3. Follow macros.
Success is guaranteed…if you want it!

Yes a cheat day didn’t work for me either. Just derailed my efforts to stay keto. However I will have an occasional keto treat. My tastes have changed.

I guess falling off the wagon is almost a natural part of Ketoing life. I have read so many threads on this forum where people have a day where they just go for carbs. And more and more…
The happy note, is they get back into the KCKO.
I am into my third month of low carbs. I have days when my levels are less than optimum. I put down to my learning experience, yes a slice of cake will wreck my ketostix for a day… but I do recover from it. Interestingly my sweet tooth has a much lower threshold now. But if I was presented with a “Quarter of Lions Midget Gems” I would break…
Good luck you, are not alone, you are learning what works for you, and what does not.

I’ll play devil’s advocate.

Cheat.

I’ve been doing keto for just about a month with a weekly cheat day (lots of beer, cake, pizza, burgers, pancakes, waffles, ice cream, krispy kremes, donuts, Cheetos, cookies, candy, chocolate - ANYTHING I want) and I’ve dropped 15lbs so far and feel great.

Usually, the way it works is I go Sunday-Friday calorie and macro counting (with a caloric deficit), then I do whatever I want on Saturday (usually between 3 and 7k calories), then eat almost nothing on Sunday because I feel so gross from Saturday, then do it all again.

I’m slowly settling in to a lighter binge/cheat day. I noticed that even my first cheat day, I wasn’t really craving anything. I just did it because I know myself and know I’d go insane if I didn’t allow me to be me for a few hours.

But I’m still making progress. YMMV. I guess it can be like an alcoholic with alcohol; some people need to abstain completely or they succumb entirely. I can tolerate a binge every now and again and be fine and continue to make progress. Sure, i may be kicked out of keto for a day or so, but that day I’m usually eating super light (keto) or fasting anyway, then I get right back on track. I know LOTS of people are against cheating. But it’s an integral part of what makes losing weight possible for me.
