I don’t know very much about ketosis, but I was informed I could be going through it? I don’t know how I could be though. If you are in ketosis what is it like? I’m not on the Keto diet, but I don’t eat really either. My appetite is suppressed could that make me go through ketosis? I have nausea and a sweet/fruity taste in the back of my throat, along with losing weight. Is there any test strips for this or how do you check?
Ketosis? Or?
A healthy person may wake up I ketosis every morning.
There are ketones test strips to do a home urine test. They will show ketones in your urine if you have more than your body can use. If so then you either your body isn’t used to being in nutritional ketosis or your ketone levels are above the nutritional range (this later can be very dangerous).
Do you have type 1 diabetes or advanced type 2?

I have never been diagnosed with diabetes, and thank you I will get those strips!
I’m not trying to starve myself. I have depression and it suppresses my appetite. And no I’m not asking if that can cause ketosis, I’m just listing my symptoms to see if it sounds like anyone else’s symptoms. The sweet taste is why I’m even asking this question, but thanks anyway.
If you’re struggling with depression then that is a much bigger issue that needs dealing with ahead of anything else. Take care of yourself.
I just don’t want it to be diabetes, because the symptoms can mimick both, so I’m hoping it’s not something dangerous.
kyndal- ketosis is a way for your body to handle its energy requirements when there are not enough carbohydrates in our systems. We then use ketones. Ketoacidosis can be a life threatening situation and usually accompanies diabetes but may also be triggered by emotional difficulties and certain medications. Please, Do not confuse the two!
Should those inexpensive urine strips test positive for ketones and you are not attempting to reach nutritional ketosis please contact your medical practitioner. I personally would contact them in either case, that fruity taste combined with unintended weight loss should be addressed. I hope you do well and discover what is going on with you. I am glad your depression allowed you to reach out today.
A lack of carbohydrates from not eating or eating very little could definitely put you into ketosis if you have a healthy metabolism. Even if you eat carb heavy once a day you could still be going in and out of ketosis. The Urine strips would tell you. There are some studies that show Ketones may help with depression in some people.
Diabetes:
Type I: you eat like crazy and lose weight even faster.
Type II: you are overweight, usually.
