Ketonix Ranges

#1

I have recently noticed a big jump in my Ketonix readings. I have the new one which has different values from previous models - see below.

I had been hovering around the teens and got really excited when I would get the odd spike into the 20s. Then in the last week or so - BOOM - 30s, 40s and even a few 50s. Whaaaaaaaaat? I thought. Is this OK? Is more always better?

Well I just got an email back from Ketonix and it would seem that, yes, more is better. You have to get into the 1000 before you hit ketoacidosis! I was really confused because their manual mentions that 50 is a bit high and could mean you are slowing your metabolism. BUT, they sent me the following article which is very interesting and goes into things in more detail.

They also said this in their email…

40s and 50s is where you want to be, 750+ is diabetic ketoacidosis, not nutritional ketosis.

The article actually puts ketoacidosis at 1250.

The graph at the beginning and the discussion at the end say 75-1250, I was guesstimating off the graph to eliminate the keto seizure diet and the other non diabetic reasons for high ketones.

@daisy, where did you get that chart?

I have the Ketonix 2015 Red, and it gives only the native Ketonix units

Does anyone know what the PPM translations are for the Ketonix 2015 models?

Oh, I see! It’s in the manual. Got it.

Also, you can always email them with questions - they are super helpful.
