Ketonix breath measure/general question from neewbie

(Kenneth Jensen) #1

Hey guys!
Im so glad i found this forum, Where there are pepole who have been doing this for a long time, and Know what they are talking About.

I bought a ketonix breath analyser a couple of days ago. When i measure, it is the highest in the mourning, and lower just after a meal (and yes, the meal was at least 85% fat, no carbs) .
Why is that? Is there a Better time than others to measure?
A completly different question, is, once you start keto, will my ketones be Really low, and once i have been doing it for, lets say a year, Will my ketones be Really Really high?

Im sorry if my English wasnt all that Perfect, and if the question Where dumb.

Thx in advance!

Levels are up and down all the time, don’t worry about it.

All meals create an insulin response (low for fat only, more for protein), just much less without carbs so you would expect ketones, which are made when insulin levels are low enough to burn rather than store fat, to be lower after a meal, even a keto meal.

As for time, as you get better at making them and using them efficiently, you will see less and less in your urine and breath since those are excess/spilled ketones. Only blood measures would tell you and that is still only for the ones that haven’t been metabolized yet. Different people produce at different rates. Some will never hit a 1.0, some will consistently produce 4.0 though it is unclear if there is any difference in energy between those 2 people. Richard of 2KDs produced low levels for years yet had no lack of energy to live or ride very long, hard cycle rides.

I happened to be fasting yesterday. This is my graph for 5 samples taken between 8am and 5pm. Pretty much up and down. I wonder does ketone production drop in expectation of lunch at 1pm as I have been Intermittent Fasting mostly 5/7 for 6-7 months by skipping breakfast.

Wow. That is Really up and down.
So is it Better to mesure all day, og to just to it once a day, lets say every mourning?

I like to measure 5-6 times per day. At the moment I only measure at work between 8am and 5pm. Once you have a Ketonix it costs nothing to measure and it is not a messy process so do it until you are happy that you can see your response to various foods as well as fasting. I basically like to get confirmation that I am in Ketosis.

This is what it looked like on Tuesday with no breakfast and lunch at 1pm.
For lunch I had ham and blueberries. I overdid the blueberries a bit!

I do what is termed Lazy Keto in that I do not measure inputs except that I aim to restrict carbs to 20 grams per day but If I overeat something like Blueberries I will know for the next time by measuring breath ketones after meals.

Thanks a bunch man. Ill just keep checking. I was at 6.0 this mourning, so just made it Into ketosis.
Again thx for the respons!

That has not been true for me or my understanding of BrAce. The aceacotate is from the beta-hydroxybutyrate. It is directly a result of oxidation of BHB and although seen as waste can be used as a direct measure of ketones USED as opposed to BHB measures which may only measure potential use. I would agree about urine strips.
