Just blew a 48.3 (red) this morning 12hrs into day 4 of my water fast. It was 11.1 (yellow) yesterday…
Ketonix breath analyzer?
It is great had mine for months now but the readings are more of a guide and should not worry too much about the actual readings. I seem to have the other measurements and anything over 40 is good. However when I have measured my blood values a high ketonix reading for me of over 50 sometimes only gets 0.4 blood.
Anyway funny I read this today I took some measurements as a test for my self.
Woke up - 35 - pretty normal
Did 3 hour fasted ride - tested and 20
took reading just before meal - 39
Just took readings 2 hours later - 52
Thats what I would expect really.
I just got my Ketonix today. Looks like the newer models have different numbers since they use PPM. It was a little confusing since the quick start guide is tied to the old numbers and buttons, but the full manual has the info.
It references the article “Measuring breath acetone for Monitoring Fat Loss” Review"
It says Nutritional Ketosis is 4-30 PPM
I am starting week 5 on keto and this is the first time I have tested. I was running on the assumption that I’ve reached Keto adaptation due to my flat BG numbers (type 1 diabetic so I have a Dexcom CGM reading every 5 minutes) and drop in insulin usage to basals only and no bolus and total insulin intake down by 75%/day), plus my weight loss of about 1.5kg/week.
I am a bit shocked that I am running from 3 down to 1.2 PPM for my tests over the last few hours. Will be interesting to see if my numbers are higher and it is just the afternoon coffee that messed me up. My macros for the day at 10:30pm are 996 net calories (29 carb, 82 protein). Maybe my fat is just too low today.
I am kinda frozen not sure what to eat to cap the night. Normally i just have some hit fat snacks like cheese or mac nuts. I have been running around 1600 calories with similar carb and protein numbers as today. Last night I decided to switch over to the Phinney’s phase 2 (Adjust) which would lower my fat and increase Protein but that only works if you are already burning fat.
It is a great way to test foods. I have just seen the real impact a small amount of lactose has. I would never have known without measuring. I know it doesn’t agree with me because of how it makes me feel but this is what happened after a small amount - maybe 20-30ml max of cream.
First nose dive was ground nuts and sweetener and the second lactose (cream). What is also interesting is that I usually start the next day at the same level as the last taken on the previous day but this time it continued to drop over night. Seeing that drop affects my decision about eating it again where a brief period of sinuses and bloating might not have been enough on their own.
I got my Ketonix USB on Feb 6th and my reading are usually 0.5-1.8 ppm. I am kind of stumped. I have been emailing back and forth with the someone at Ketonix and they are working to see if they can figure out what is going on. I don’t think the range of 0.5-1.8 ppm will give any meaningful feed back when evaluating food much less anything else.
easiest thing is to go to website. the new one is shown on there and also the old blue and red versions.
I just got mine too, it’s reading about the same as yours on the USB setting. I’ve also sent Ketonix a message. Let me know what you find out. I’m always in the blue range. Max ppm was 3.0
Thanks for you help
Since Ketonix sent me a replacement I have I had scores from 5.0ppm to 15ppm, the original unit only gave me scores of 0.5-2.5ppm and most of the time it read less than 1.5ppm.
Thanks Flipflop, I’m hoping they’ll do the same here. waiting for a reply from Kenonixs.
OMG, I thought mine was pretty new, it is the blue one. All the different models make it so difficult to understand. I hate buying something for so much, only to have it rendered effectively obsolete so quickly, it’s really irritating.
I have it set for the ‘Nutritional’ range:
Blue under 25
green at 25
yellow at 40 and
red at 70,
Nutritional ketosis being between 40 and 70.
I can barely seem to get any sort of a decent reading, I am currently at hour 40+ of a fast, and the best reading I just got was 20, when I got a 22 yesterday!
My understanding is it is a reasonable correlation to blood sugar - that is, the higher the number, the lower your blood sugar is. (rather than correlating with blood ketones, which it doesn’t do)
I guess my blood is dealing with a sugar pocket at the moment!
