Ketones - Consistently getting between 5-7 mmol in strip tests

(Pat Mifsud) #1

Hey all,
I’ve read in a bunch of places that ketone levels in strip tests >5mmol/L are possibly a sign of ketoacidosis, or at the very least not ideal. I’ve been doing keto for well over a month now and these numbers are consistently between 5 and 7, regardless of hydration. Is this the case? No history of diabetes in the family ect, though there is a bit of thyroid stuff.

Thanks!

This has no relevance to you.
The test strips are for diabetics to test if they are in ketoacidosis, a very dangerous condition for them to be in.

Someone who is not diabetic or has no history, does not need to worry about that at all.

As long as you are getting SOME colour in your strips, you know that you’re on the right track. The strips test for ketones being wasted through the urine, not the level of ketosis within the body.

Good to know, thanks!
