Urine ketone stix may have been invented to detect the presence of ketones for the benefit of T1D patients. It’s a life and death issue for them - and only for them. Folks who do not have T1D have nothing to fear from ketosis. Just the opposite. The ‘pee stix’ do detect the presence of ketones in urine, none the less. You get ketones in your urine only when you are in ketosis. The problem with them is simply that excreted ketones vary in concentration rapidly and significantly. So about all they tell you is that you are in ketosis. For many folks the ‘pee stix’ show less and less excreted ketones as they becomes better fat adapted and excrete less.
