Ketone urine strip

I have done keto in the past and currently I am 2 weeks in the urine strip only shows trace and barely that. Does that mean my body is more efficiently using them now at a faster rate than before?

It could mean that. Or it could mean they’re expired. Or it could mean they’ve been exposed to moisture in the air. Or it could mean you’re better hydrated than you were when you started. Or it could mean that you’re eating more carbohydrates and not realizing it.

The urine strips are basically a yes or no answer. Beige usually means you do not have ketones in your urine. Any other color from palest pink to purple, yes, you do. If you want to actually monitor your ketone level you will need a blood meter.

My guess – and it’s just a guess – is that two weeks is unlikely to mean anything. My ketones have come down over time (though I did get a 1.1 mmol/l after 24 hours of fasting last week, blood sample), but I’ve done hundreds of workouts while in ketosis. And I’ve made the mistake so many times in the past thinking there was causation between something I did and ketones (or blood sugar), and realized that it was likely just testing error or the day or not controlling enough stuff.

Could mean that, could mean you’re optimally hydrated, could mean nothing at all. Your ketone levels literally don’t matter, only that you’re in Ketosis. Unless you’re doing Keto as a real medical intervention, don’t even care about them. Measuring them is a complete waste of time minus when it’s literally needed for health reasons. Keep the carbs low, and if you’re not passing out, you’re in ketosis.

So many things you could test that give you real life feedback, Ketone’s aren’t one of them.

To me, I just assume I’m in ketosis when I’m never hungry and have no cravings for carbohydrates. I’ve never actually measured anything.
