I know it’s late but I’m excited. So my ketone levels have been falling from their super high levels. This weeks reDings have been steadily dropping with no changes in my macros so I’m assuming this means I’m finally fat adapting? This morning it was 1.9. Then later around mid day 2.2 and I just checked now and it was .9 I’ve been waiting for several weeks for adaptation to occur, is it safe to say it has?
Ketone levels falling does this mean I’m fat adapting?
They’re up and down all the time anyway. If you’re feeling good and getting results that’s the best guide you can have.
Yes I’d say you probably are. If the 1.9 was taken on waking that’s good, anything above 0.5 is nutritional ketosis, 1.0 - 3.0 is Optimal Nutritional Ketosis. How do you feel? Are you checking BGLs as well?
Ketones fluctuate quite widely, sometimes for no apparent reason. Comparing or looking at hour to hour or day to day ketone readings will drive you batty. The only rule I’ve discovered - personally and through research - is that ketones for most people generally tend to be lower in the morning and gradually rise throughout the day.
So, other than that general guide, wondering why my ketones are 1.1 and not 2.1 like they were 8 hours ago and I didn’t eat anything gets me nowhere. Also, for what it’s worth, there are also times when it’s, say, 2.8 when I thought it’d be under 1.0. The body does its thing and I can only control two things: what goes in my mouth and whether I choose to fret over ketone readings (I don’t).
I concur with the others not to interpret too much from fluctuations. That said, I think if your average readings over the course of several days (rather than several readings on the same day) are lower than the average you were getting earlier, that can be an indicator of fat-adaptation for sure.
My readings had been the 3.0-4.0 range for weeks and weeks so I’m not concerned about the daily fluctuations I was just giving them for informational purpose. I think I’m fat adapting though finally!!! So exciting. Thanks
Yay!!!
The hardest part is over once your body learns to burn ketones and your cravings diminish and so does your hunger.
Have you found it easy to skip meals w/o discomfort? Or accidentally because you forgot to eat?
Yes! And I’m starting to see the slightest hint of definition in my upper abs… now I ha e my monthly weigh in next Saturday and I’m so super curious what it will show! For all you slow losers out there like me, just keep going! My number one piece of advice is stay distracted… every time you start to feel like it isn’t working, distract yourself and keep going
Six to eight weeks is generally how long fat-adaptation takes, so . . . .
