Ketone level spike!

Hello!
I am just under 2 weeks in to the keto diet. I went through the headaches, fuzziness etc and that is improving thank goodness.
I have been testing blood glucose and ketones every day and was hovering around a sort of underwhelming 1.5 for ketones.
I woke up this morning and my level read 5! I retook twice more just to be sure…next read said 6.6, third was a 6. Is this safe?
I’m not taking any supplements or fasting.
I know I was hoping for higher readings but I’m afraid of an overcorrection.

Any advice is helpful!!

Your body is adapting, relax.

Your body is making ketones but just hasn’t figured out how to use them yet. This is the adaption process at work. Your fine and many see numbers of 7 or 8. I wouldn’t be concerned until you start to creep up towards the 9 or 10 mark.

Thank you for the reassurance… it was so sudden that it startled me. I have about 10 lbs to lose so I want to do it right.

If you are not diabetic then yes, it’s entirely safe, you should not chase numbers or change your diet based on your readings though, it can really halt your progress.
