Welcome to the forums! You may have heard this already, but it always bears repeating: remember that keto is a way of life, not a quick fix. You may lose the weight you hope to lose, and in the desired time frame, but be aware that it might not happen. Women’s experience is different from men’s, and I would hate to see you abandon a healthy way of eating because your expectations were not met. Don’t worry about what your scale is telling you; keep track of your waistline and your dress size. Sometimes women put on lean muscle weight even while losing fat, and this can be upsetting if you are focusing on poundage rather than other measurements. What we can promise for sure is better health, more energy, and a sense of well-being you might never have felt before.

The way a ketogenic diet works is that, by keeping your protein moderate and limiting your carbohydrate intake, you are freeing your body to metabolize its excess store of fat. But you are going to need more calories than a moderate amount of protein (say, a gram a day per kilo of lean body mass) and under 20 g of carbohydrate can give you, so the remainder of your calorie intake is going to have to come from fat. It’s not that fat is magic, just that it contains a lot of energy and is safe to eat a lot of because it doesn’t stimulate insulin production. As long as your insulin stays low, your body can metabolize its excess fat, as long as you don’t skimp on the calories. So eat fat until you are no longer hungry—your body will signal to you that you’ve given it enough, and you will be able to go hours and hours between meals. And don’t eat again, until you are hungry again.

After a few weeks, you are likely to find that you don’t want more than one or two meals a day; this is because at that point your body will have finished adapting to using fat instead of sugar as its primary fuel. But you don’t ever have to go hungry or count calories on a well-formulated ketogenic diet—so enjoy!

Yes thanks so much. I’ve been studying Keto for about 2yrs. I did not understand how Keto worked…the science of it all. I did not officially start until I understood how to be fat adapted. I’m only 4wks in I don’t know how much ww I’ve lost nor have I measured. I came in calm and collective. I didnt approach it as a fad or diet!! It’s a LIFESTYLE! I plan on continuing this WOE. I’m getting married in Sept so the more inches I lose the better I will look. Not to mention I have baby fat I need to get rid of I have a 3mth old.
