Long time listener, first time caller… I have been in ketosis for about 2 months with some significant weight loss finally closer to 200 pounds instead of 300. I have 2 keto dudes and a close friend to thank for the help starting and continuing. My question is more open ended on how to get some of the omega 3s and other nutritional benefits that are common to fish or sea food that I cannot get from these sources. I am by no means bored or looking for recipes so much as the nutrition I may lack from not being able to eat seafood. Any help, substitutes or recipes are welcome. Thank you for your time!!! Keto on!
Keto with fish allergies?!?
Wow, congrats on you significant weight loss!! I very rarely eat fish, are you sure you should be worried about omega 3s? Maybe add some ground flax seeds, walnuts or chia seeds to your food?
I’m not sure I need to worry. But since taking my health and diet more serious I figured I would ask. When eating carbage and never thinking about what goes in my body I had no worries because i didnt know lol. I will try out your suggestions. Thanks!!!
Landlocked people have been healthy for millennia. I wouldn’t worry. I think the main think is to avoid unnatural, unhealthy oils.
I googled “omega 3 sources” and the non-seafood sources were: avocado, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, seaweed, basil, cruciferous veg, leafy greens, and cashews (beware of carb counts on the nuts and seeds, especially cashews.)
Also you get omega3 from grass fed beef and butter and pastured chicken eggs. That’s a bit expensive for me to do always. Personally I would look for animal sourced omega3 and avoid the seed and nut varieties which also contain significant omega6 that works against raising the ratio of HDL to Cholesterol. Seed oils and nut oils can be inflammatory.
You could also use shellfish based omega3 supplements like krill or clam omega3 if you aren’t allergic to those, @Happyheart just did a thread yesterday, she’s allergic to fish and asked a similar question. I really think the key is limiting omega6 sources to raise your omega3, most people here don’t supplement fish oil, I do myself in quite a high daily dose. 1600 EPA and 1200 DHA. The DHA is the more important type of omega3.

Thank you for that about the beef, butter and pastured eggs. My googleing lead to “fish and vegetarian” sources, which did make me suspicious. And the metion with eggs was with hens supplemented with omega 3, not with hens who ate food that would naturally make their eggs higher in O3.
Thanks. I’m looking into finding a local source of grass fed. Otherwise I have heard some good things about some butcher box mail site that sends you mixed beef pork or chicken. Just haven’t got my wife on board fully so I don’t want to drop the kinda money they are asking a month before we are more carnivorous!
Grass fed butter is pretty easy to find if there’s a health food store near you.
Walnut and flax seed oils also have omega 3. Be sure to not consume much omega 6 oils and you should be fine with the sources already listed.
Vegetarian agenda, flax seed vegetarian grain fed chickens, pastured chickens eat bugs and seeds they find along with some supplemented feed.
Yeah I always buy the eggs that claim the chickens ate bugs.
