Keto test strips- solved and thanks

(George) #1

Hello folks and this my 2nd time around with keto.
My 1st bout was about 40 years ago when keto was mostly mis understood, and I was not so serious.
Well here I am again and I am beginning anew.
My question is this:
I have some keto test straps that are supposed to indicate whether or not I am in ketosis.
Basically, wee in a cup, immerse test strip, and compare to color chart.
So, if yesterday I was bad but have had nothing to eat that was on the forbidden foods list, for about 12 hours, how soon does it take until I reach ketosis ?

PS giving up fresh fruit is the hardest for me.

Thanks

The urine strips are designed for type 1 diabetics to check for excessive waste of one type of ketone body (one produced early on). They are not reliable for checking for nutritional ketosis.

If you’re doing 20 net carbs per day, you will be in ketosis. Usually takes 24 to 48 hours.

P.S. There are no “forbidden” foods, as low as you can fit them into your 20 net carbs per day budget.

Hello George, and welcome to the forum.

I have been doing Keto since February 2019 and I have lost 80 pounds so far, and I have never used any Keto test strips, or any form of testing, and I just keep my Carbs to under 20 a day, which is the key to success, as @OgreZed has mentioned above. I agree with his comments, Keto is very adjustable, you an work things in easily, as long as you keep the carbs under the 20.

I wish you success in your Keto and if you have any other questions, please ask away.
