Keto strips & caffeine

#1

What’s up ppl? I am confused about a few things. Well, just two main things. I looked on other threads and I did no mt find one específico solution, and I have not found an answer online so I am hoping someone can help me.

Ok.

NÚMERO 1:
KETO STRIPS
I have been in Ketosis stage for the past week and 6 days. So almost two fills weeks. I have been using keto strips to keep tabs on my Ketosis phases. I have eaten some sweets, and when I checked my pee with the strips. It showed that I was in front Ketosis mode. Does a feint color in the strips really does tell you if you are in Ketosis?

Second:

Caffeine-

Can caffeine throw you off Ketosis due to the insulin?

I hope that my questions where clear enough. If not, please. Do say so and I will try my best to put defenses and certain journals that I’ve read.

Thanks!

I drink a sugar free energy drink every now and then. My ketone levels are always good.

Interesting because today, for example. I had a physics exam and i did not get much sleep studying. I slept for about 4 hours, woke up and took a caffeine piil. I checked myself with a keto strip, and it seemed to be ok. I took another caffeine pill midday and my levels were ok. I took my last caffeine pill during the afternoon around 4-5 pm, and when i came home to check myself. I was in the pink color code. I just checked myself again before laying in bed, and there is a feint purple mark on the strip. I am so confused as what is going with my keto mode.

Ketone urine strips are useless for tracking how anything affects you. They only show when you have excess ketones in your urine. You could eat a donut and your body could dump ketones and show the darkest or color on the strip. Or, it could hold the ketones and show the lightest color.

The only thing they are really useful for is for diabetics that aren’t eating keto to see if they have ketones in their urine which can be dangerous.

If you want to use them to measure anything, stay under 20g of net carbs a day every day and hope for a lighter color because that may mean fat adaptation. But, not necessarily.

As far as caffeine and insulin, your lack of sleep could be raising cortisol and so might the caffeine which raises insulin. But, it might not. A few people here drink lots of coffee and energy drinks and do fine. If you start to notice not feeling good, try to slow the caffeine and replace it with sleep.

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but where are people getting the idea that Keto sticks do anything? Is there some keto website somewhere that’s actually telling people that whizzing on sticks actually does something useful?

I understand the whole psychological component, I mean, I suppose it might be satisfying to some people to pee on something and have it change color. I also understand the reasoning behind some people being curious enough to test via other methods (however little I agree with the idea).

But I’m a little baffled about this. The idea of Ketosticks being useful has been debunked for a VERY long time now - yet people still show up on various Keto forums pointing out that they’re “in deep ketosis” because they have a purple stick. I’ve already seen a few posts on here of people claiming victory after eating a carb-heavy meal but “still managed to stay in ketosis” because their pee stick said so…

Is there a master post somewhere we can use to point out just how useless these sticks are for our purposes? My “concern” is that people are going to continue acting on the bad data they’re getting from these ketosticks, which in turn will create even more posts pointing out why this lifestyle change is a failure for them.

(Note: this isn’t a jab at you, OP - it’s just that I see these threads a lot and wonder where they come from :))

As for this, I would think that it’s really dependent on how MUCH caffeine you drink. You’ll probably hear this over and over, but everyone is different. I drink a LOT of caffeine. I love how it makes me feel. I drink a lot of Diet Dr. Pepper, Monster Ultra energy drinks and 2 24oz coffees a day. I am a caffeine fiend. It’s never affected me in any way, and I had these habits through my entire 140lb weight loss.

But that’s me. Others drink caffeine, get jittery and spike their cortisol levels, and that will absolutely get in the way.

It really depends on how you react to it. If you’re used to a lot of caffeine and you don’t feel like it’s negatively impacting your daily life, then I would venture to guess that you’re probably ok. But you really have to get out of the habit of using those ketosticks, because they aren’t telling you what you think they’re telling you - and I would hate to see yet another person act on bad data from those miserable things.

I’m not sure where the keto stick thing came from. I do remember buying keto sticks to track ketosis also in the very beginning and even still have them. Mostly because I keep forgetting where I put them to throw them out. I’m going to bet my information came from keto YouTubers who never kept learning. I mean, there’s a keto YouTuber out there who swears by CICO even as her hair falls out and she spreads a toxic dieter mentality. Then we have Reddit of course. That place can be a cesspool.

Thank you all for your input. I can’t really recal where I read about the keto strips, but I will look into it as soon as I get the chance today and post some references. I messed up my diet last night. Had more than enough beers and I had two honey buns, chocolate and a darn soda so I know my glucose level is all jacked up. Since I’m a college student, and I don’t have a meal plan. I cook for myself. So with that being said, should I consider keeping track of mundo Ketosis stage by using strips, or how could I go on about knowin when I’m in Ketosis?

One more thing. I am a cookout to attend to to today, so today might a carb day. Does that mean at I will gain a good amount of fat? Also, does this mean that it will take longer than 48-72 hours for me to get back into Ketosis? Sorry for all of the new ir questions. I don’t want for Ketosis to be a temporary thing, I would like for it to be a lifestyle so that nenas to hay I really want to understand Ketosis and my body. I’m atill learning so I know I can’t perfect it ASAP, and with me being an engineering student. Well, sometimes shit happens. Thank you all for you’re help and guidance. I can assure y’all that you’re not waisting your time

I don’t think you will gain much fat, if any. It’s only one day. I don’t think it will take you that long to get back into ketosis, probably 20 - 40 hours.
