Clearly this post is for the Starbucks enthusiasts out there. My typical order is an americano with HWC, but sometimes I want a flavor so I’ll get one of the sugar free pumps (the 3 they have range from 0-2g carbs I think). Has anybody noticed if these kick you out of ketosis? I don’t personally test my ketones, but I remember a blog or podcast from Dr. Fung saying that artificial sweeteners can produce an insulin response. Can anybody confirm?
Keto Starbucks Order (beyond HWC)
It’s very individual.
For me, any fake sweetener other than aspartame or the sugar alcohols that I use in home (they are not as common in the wild) works ok but acesulfame potassium (ACE-K for short) and most of the other fakies will kick me out of ketosis for days and starts a carb crave cycle (might be in my mind but repeated “experiments” seem to confirm this effect).
So, you really have to do your own experiments. I will say I researched the sugar free syrups at starbucks and, from what I rememberize they had ACE-K, something I can’t mess with, so I have to abstain from them. Before I learned this, I tried a double pump of a sugar free syrup, cold brew, light ice, blended like a frappachino, it did not taste good. I was going to play with the sugar free syrup content until I did the research, realized they would likely stop ketosis, and I just quit playing with that. Back to black joe and/or maybe a little HWC.
Black coffee with no sugar. Guaranteed keto.
Thank you very much! I had no idea about that ACE-K, great info. I fell ill with the flu this week which is why it took me so long to respond, but I appreciate you taking the time to reply to my question!
Hello Starbucks addicts! I’ve been getting a modified version of my favorite… HWC, coffee, and Splenda (I bring my own- I use one packet and it hasn’t knocked me out of ketosis yet!).
Another spin- I love their passion tea lemonade (used to get it double sweetened, good gravy). Keto- iced passion tea with a gigantic shot of HWC, no sweetener at all.
Both are delicious and are working for me.
