Keto Side Effects

(Ashley Smart) #1

Hello, I have been doing keto for 4 weeks and have been having negative side effects such as an increase in anxiety, 2 panic attacks, left shoulder pain, left forearm pain, numbness in my left hand and pain in my left calf. I started this weekend taking Dr. Berg’s raw wheat grass, nutritional yeast and electrolyte powder. Prior to starting this way of eating I had high cholesterol, insulin resistance and pre-diabetic. I have not lost weight but my clothes are fitting differently.

Has anyone else experienced these side effects? If so, how did you over come them and what did you do to overcome them? Thanks!!

I haven’t had any of that. Maybe try skipping the liquid rabbit food and stick to the basics for a bit to see what happens:

  • 20 grams or less of carbs
  • moderate protein scaled to lean body mass
  • fat to satiety

Thank you for the advice. I started them this weekend because of the other symptoms. I guess I need to see my physician to have lab work done to see if the supplements are needed.

There’s all sorts of adjustments the body makes the first few months, especially depending on metabolically deranged you are/were. It’s always good to consult with your doctor, but it’s also a good idea to educate yourself. When it comes to nutrition, it generally doesn’t take long to get to a point where you know significantly more than your doctor.

In my experience, anxiety attacks relate to dropping blood sugar when I’m sleeping. LCHF eating improves this. Keep tinkering with your macros and eating schedule to find a pattern that works for you. I wish you well. Panic attacks are no joke.

Have a look at eliminating or limiting some of these as you start out:
