Keto presentation on PBS (Public Broadcast System)

Turned on the tv this afternoon and was surprised that our local PBS was featuring a 90-minute presentation on Keto. They are having one of their like quarterly membership drives, so that is when they pull out the heavy hitters that pique the most interest. I came in with only about half and hour left and could only watch for fifteen minutes before I had to turn it off. I am so pi$$ed right now, I am going to contact PBS tomorrow and give them a piece of my mind.

The presentation was by Dr. Josh Axe. I don’t know if he is an MD or a Ph.D., however, I thought he was a complete d.b. and snake oil salesman. He was just regurgitating all of the principles of keto that we know from the true experts like Dr. Eenfeldt, Dr. Fung, Gary Taubes, etc., and presenting them as if they were his own, i.e., “with my program,” “following my program,” etc. Plus, if you are a contributor to PBS at the $180 level, you get all kinds of “prizes,” in the form of recipe books, other books, a stupid thermos, etc. I am so disappointed and disgusted with PBS right now, I could spit. I have no idea where they found this guy, but obviously, there are so many other more qualified subject matter experts (MD’s and people who have devoted a good portion of their lives to studying the science behind keto) that aren’t hawking a thing - it’s all free and available to anyone who wants to investigate.

Understand your ire. But everyone has to make a living and Axe is not telling you to eat Kraft dinners and Twinkies. Anyone who follows his advice will discover Eenfeldt, Fung, Taubes et al.

Like all chiropractors, he is big on being called “Doctor.”

Agreed; the thing I didn’t like was he was presenting keto as “his program,” and hawking his stuff. I had never heard of him before today, plus I do think an organization like PBS, dedicated to education, should have chosen someone else to present on this subject. I value dietdoctor.com because they make virtually most of their contact accessible to everyone, not just paid subscribers. Their videos and information seems factual and comprehensive, and they seem to be one of the few truly not-for-profit organizations out there. It sure seems like their only mission mission is to get the message out.

I suspect it all boils down to some schlub in the programming dept of PBS being assigned to find a ‘spokesperson for keto’. Said schlub did a Google search and Dr Axe turned up near the top. At least she/he didn’t turn up Kevin Hall.

That is one every 6 months , I was excited as it was on over a year ago . Was so disappointed , was total garbage . Didn’t expect that on pbs. Expected that at 1 am during infomercials

Exactly!!! It was a joke.
