Keto Newbie UK

(Noemi) #1

hi everyone, I’m completely new to the keto world, I have started 3 weeks ago and lost already 3kg, but although I’m very happy with the result I’m not entirely sure on what I’m doing lol so I’m glad I found a community that hopefully can help me clearing my doubts!!

I’m Italian (living in the UK) and so far there is only one thing I’ve struggled the most: my espresso in the morning:) I would normally take my espresso with 1 teaspoon of brown sugar, I tried without, I tried with sugar free syrups, I tried with coconut milk, I tried with double cream or whipped cream, but they all change the taste and I really miss that coffee taste first thing in the morning, do you have any idea of how I could replace brown sugar? I read about the sukrin gold, but not sure it’s ok for keto??
Also, another question, I know any type of bread is obviously a NO NO, but, I just can’t do it, so at the moment I’m eating one slice of Hovis Nimble in the morning (8g carb per slice) I know it’s a lot, but I try to keep the carbs count as lower as possible through the rest of the day and so far it seems that it’s ok as I lost weight (?) anyone knows a better brand with lower carb? or any tricks? I heard about freezing it and toast it from frozen, is it a real thing?

thank you

Hi @NoemiM

Good to see you, there’s a few UK peeps on here, and internationally based friends too!

Why dont you research some low-carb bread, there’s tons of mentions on here for it!

Welcome to the forum. To simplify things just make sure you stay under 20 net carbs per day and eat fat until you are satiated.

As an ex-bread lover I can fully sympathize you not wanting to give it up, but I can tell you that for me, after my chemistry started changing, I learned to love other foods as much as I used to love bread. If you can’t completely give it up, try cutting your 1 piece to a half piece and go from there. Once you have control of your cravings you might be able to one day say, “I don’t need this today or any more”.

As for espresso, you can try stevia. In most people it does not spike insulin much.

thank you!!! I order the Erythritol, I’ll give it a try and I might order the Lakanto too as it seems to be exactly what I was looking for  thanks! regarding the bread, I tried lol but I really don’t like the aftertaste of almond or coconut flour :frowning: but I will keep looking for recipes!! I found another one that it’s stocked in Waitrose, it’s called LivLife and apparently has only 3g of carb per slice!I will try that as well

thank you  I try to stay within 20g carbs but it’s very difficult and to be honest I don’t want to be too strict otherwise knowing myself I will give up soon lol, but I definitely keep it under 40g and apparently it works as I’m losing weight, maybe gradually I will be trying less.
I will try  half toast sounds better than no toast at all lol thank you!
