Keto/low-carb doctor/nutritionist in London - I need medical help!

(Danielle ) #1

Hi there,

I am so tired of experimenting and not reaching any goal at all. I need professional help. I feel like something is wrong with me.

Does anyone know a doctor or nutritionist that can help me with keto/low-carb in London?

Best regards,
Danielle

What kind of help do you need? Dietdoctor has info on some London Drs.

Hi Ellen,

I had a look there but most are paediatricians.

I need someone to tell me what is wrong with me. :joy:

I cannot get help from my GP. They think I am crazy when I tell them I am trying to follow a keto and low-carb diet. Recently, when I told them my sleep has become better since I started taking magnesium, they asked me at two instances if that was something sketchy I ordered online.

Best regards,
Danielle

Hi Danielle, what kind of help do you actually need? What do you think is wrong with you?

I do not know. My body is very mischievous. I want to know how insulin resistant I am and whether I might have any food sensitivities that might interfere. Another thing I have been thinking about is problems with my thyroid.

I took blood tests last year and all my values looks great. However, I am gaining weight around my stomach and thighs, and I feel like I am even more sensitive to food now than I was before.

I feel like I swell up after eating and things aren’t working.

I have felt great on keto and low-carb before and has had great achievement, but now things aren’t working since November.

I know the stress I am under is immense and possibly have a great impact, but I would love to know if something else might be wrong with me.

I cannot do anything about my stress. It is as it is.

Maybe this might help:

Poor you, I am sorry you are feeling so unwell.
I really don’t want to add to your stress but when I had similar symptoms pre-keto I truly believed I may have had ovarian or bowel cancer. All tests were thankfully negative and I believe I had gluten intolerance, IBS and a bit of insulin resistance thrown in…
What I’m saying is, this may not be a metabolic problem. Please go and have some investigations.
I wish you well.

Ps you could try www.babylonhealth.com which is an online symptom checker/Dr consultation.
Remember, not every illness is metabolically caused or treated.

These looks exactly like the the types I was looking for! However, there must be a way to get help without paying that much? Referral? I am a MSc student so I don’t have that kind of money - yet!

Wow! You must have been so scared at first!

I think mine is something similar like yours + the extreme stress.

However, how do I test for the things that you mentioned?

Danielle
My recommendation is to read this book. Stress may cause many of your issues, and you need to understand it better… this book was recommended to me… very good read.

I was, but I am a nurse and have had every disease going over the years- it goes with the territory!
The advice on stress management is valuable. However, if you have specific physical symptoms and bloating for no reason, you should start with your GP. I don’t know where you are from so I’m not sure how easy that is. I am in the UK.

this website has NHS GPs and others who are interested keto - London and nationwide - but not many in London - it might be useful to start investigating.

Hello again! I was just wondering how you are getting on and if you got the help you needed?:relieved:

Hi Jacqueline,

I just saw this message. Thank you for asking! I apologise for being a bit “slow”. :joy:

We moved to a house last month on the other side of London and it has really been intense with the university (full-time), part-time job and getting the kids into a new school.

I just registered with the GP in this area, and as soon as I am in the system, I will try to get referred to a doctor that understands ketogenic, if that is possible.

I think stress has been playing a big part in my health, although I stopped using whole milk in my cappuccinos, and used double cream and MCT/ghee/butter instead. Sometimes I use Arla Laktosfree, with 2.7 g carbohydrates per 100. I feel like this made a big difference, and I became less “swollen”. I also noticed that I had to go to the bathroom constantly when moving away from the whole milk in my coffee, possibly my body getting rid of excess water.

I was relatively low in carbohydrates during the last months, but with university, job, kids and all that I took cappuccinos on the go and then drank cappuccinos with whole milk at home, and I might be super sensitive to sugars and carbohydrates. I just cannot stand black coffee or americano for longer periods of time.

Sorry for the long message! = )

I hope you are well!

Thank you for getting back to me. It sounds like you are finding your way a little, and the reduction in your symptoms is encouraging.
I hope you find the help that you need and that your new home and job is exciting🙂
