I caved and had sugar and carbs on Valentine’s Day and yesterday (leftover) and I have to say it literally gave me the worst migraine!!! Both times! I even ate candies and carbs within serious moderation, but that did not matter. That alone is a reason for me to stay keto! Geez.
Keto headache
I had two glasses of dry white wine at dinner last night and by 10pm my head was pounding so hard I had to lie down and sleep til 9am this morning to get over it. Was told alcohol carbs were ok but now I wonder if the metabolization of them freaked out my brain vessels after just barely getting used to the ketones. Wonder if that’s what happens if you overdo the carbs for a day too? How do you feel today?
You can still enjoy chocolate in moderation. Try some 80% or higher cacao.
I still have a headache. I swear, I definitely didn’t over do it with the carbs, but my headache was migraine status. It was horrible. It happened both times so I’m pretty sure it’s not coincidental. It’s crazy though!
So not exactly a “keto headache” as the title says, but a “carb headache” after being on keto long enough to where your body doesn’t manage a big dose of sugar well.
Salt always helps me ditch a keto headache, like ALWAYS. Headaches are usually dehydration issues when alcohol is involved. A couple of times salt didn’t do it, take Tylenol.
