Hello all,
My journey back from a bad situation - made possible with Keto. Years of misguided dietary advice and repeated dietary failures at stemming the growth of my body culminated in late 2016 with a train wreck of medical problems. I was at 305 lbs, (up from 185 or so in my early 20’s) and a serious group of issues. I was recovering from a dislocated pelvis, multiple kidney stones which blocked off urine and damaged my kidneys, function plummeted to 36%. My insulin resistance finally drove my blood glucose to the 400-500 range, A1C at 10.5. My blood pressure was through the roof, 210/195 (hypertension emergency). My docs said I came very close to passing away; copious meds were prescribed.
I started cutting back carbs and started Keto in earnest on Sept 4. My health has greatly improved as a result. BG and BP now normal, A1C at 4.8. No more diabetes meds, down to one (from 7) BP med. This way of eating has SAVED MY LIFE. Coming back (literally from the brink of dying) is proving to be a hugely difficult task; I’m making headway but the road is oh so long and steep. I’m not sure how far back I will come, but with Keto I have a fighting chance.
So don’t lose sight of what a profoundly great thing we have in Keto. It’s made all the difference for me, and I’ll stick with it through all of the ‘growing pains’ of staying fat adapted. I’m at 250 lbs. now and falling, kidney function back up to 61% (!). Stay tuned, and we shall see how far back I can manage to get. But it’s gotta be Keto…
