Keto friendly meal replacement bars?

(Cynthia Breshears Harkins) #1

I love drinking protein shake and eating carb controlled or " Keto friendly" protein bars. Who has time to eat meals? I am wondering, even thoughI researched several reputable sites, if this is a good ( maybe short term) practice? Just want to loose 10 more pounds but continue with this way of eating! Love the way I feel and do NOT crave anything…other than my budlight line :confused:too many carbs. What are your thoughts on meal replacements?

If that is all you can do it is better than eating the standard American diet. I think each person needs to follow their own intuition and do what fits. There may be times in your life you may be able to improve your diet. I started off eating the best way I could and I feel like I am improving but still have a long way to go.
What products have you found to simplify your eating?

Hm, can you make your own? That way you will know exactly what’s in them. There are some really cool “keto bar” recipes that include unsweetened coconut, coconut milk, sugar free chocolate, chopped nuts and chia seeds, flax seeds and pumpkin or sunflower seeds. Very low carbs for these homemade versions.
Better yet, how about just skip the meal replacement by skipping the meal all together. A little IF may help curb your appetite. Just a thought. Good luck

There are ketopians who use meal replacement regularly. I don’t, but keep Quest bars on hand (4 nc) to fall back on JIC I need food and don’t have something handy. I personally don’t really enjoy them to the point I would sub them regularly. I’d rather eat an avocado, almonds or macadamia nuts. Some are even fans of microwaving the quest bars. I’ve tried it… it’s ok but Id prefer a small serving of halo top over that as a desert. Their ingredients are decent for a bar. But they can be expensive depending on where you buy from. I don’t think eating them frequently would cause a problem.

I feel like you do what works for you! For me, I use meal replacement bars as an emergency ration only. I can fast pretty well, but if I am going to a place that may or may not have acceptable food and I don’t want to fast, I will eat a meal bar to just get me through. I feel they are not real food and so not preferred for me.

(You've tried everything else; why not try bacon?) #6

I love to cook if there are others to cook for, and there are a lot of brilliant keto recipes out there, I certainly wouldn’t want to replace them! And I love eating leftovers, so that’s lunch taken care of. And I’ve got a great routine for frying bacon and scrambling eggs—two of my favorite foods—so I can cook breakfast in my sleep if I have to. The problem is that after a year of fat-adaptation, I don’t get hungry enough to eat three meals a day. I’m not trying to fast, but sometimes it just happens. It’s hard enough not being able to cram everything into one or two meals a day. I can’t imagine replacing one of those meals with a bar.
